Nice haul! Side Note. It's sad that Texas Parks & Wildlife closed their park.

That looks like fun and good job on removing invasive species.

Those were great times on Fairfield as well as Gibbons Creek Yes sir. My wife and I were there so much that we got to know the game wardens that lived in the park. They’d stop by our camping spot when we were frying fish at night. I had a running contest with one warden to see who could shoot the most fish in a day. My best day was 71 fish (!) but he was ahead of me last I knew. Between my wife, son, and I, we scored over 100 fish in a day a few times. We mostly just shot between 10:00AM and 2:00PM when the sun was at its zenith and there was the least glare on the water. If you camped there back in the day, they had a photo album in the office at the gate that had a few pics of my wife and me with a big spread of fish. I loved that park. Deer would walk right into camp if they thought you had corn or saltines for them. I know, not healthy snacks but whatever. I was easing along the creek that feeds the lake and walked right up on a game warden in full camo bow fishing. I was concentrating hard on fish in the creek and when he said something, my knees almost buckled. 😂

I thought bowfishing was a No-No on here?
If it's allowed. Im feeling robbed. I'd rather lob an arrow at a trash fish then swing a pole.

it is okay to post pics here or in Freshwater Fishing section. Do NOT post in Rough Fish section and do not post pics of wasting fish (ex. rough fish piled up on the bank or in a trash can somewhere)
If you have any questions, please ask

If it's allowed. Im feeling robbed. I'd rather lob an arrow at a trash fish then swing a pole. This was the late 80s, early 90s. It was legal. One of the game wardens and I had a friendly competition to see who could get the most in one day. On the down side, with my wife and I both using electric filet knives in the fish cleaning house there, I would always wonder if I should have shot fewer. I asked the game warden once about legal means. He said anything except gill nets and explosives. All firearms were banned in the park anyway.

I have a basic kit that I switch it over for bowfishing. I've used some compound bow I bought at the flea market before. I've walked Nolan creek and hunted down the sucker fish. I've harpoon'ed an over 5 pound carp in Belton lake. Went after gar on the Leon river. I enjoy bowfishing more then I ever have pole fishing. Walking knee deep in a creek. Polarised sunglasses. Bow and arrow? There's nothing better. A life bucket list goal of mine was having a flat bottom rigged up with a generator and lights. Nice big deck to stand on and tearing the bejezzes out of carp. Legitimate life goal.

Bow and arrow? There's nothing better. A life bucket list goal of mine was having a flat bottom rigged up with a generator and lights. Nice big deck to stand on and tearing the bejezzes out of carp. Legitimate life goal. My best fish was a 66 pound gar on Lake Texoma. When she took off, she jerked the bow out of my left hand and I barely caught the string with my right hand. It was an epic battle. Back in the 80s, I bought 3 recurves at a pawn shop for $75. An AMF and two Bears. They all drew 45-50 pounds. I cut some short pieces of 1/2” all thread, sharpened the threads with a file, and drilled/tapped a 1/420 hole in the center. I drilled/tapped 1/2” holes in the front of the bow risers and epoxied the all thread in for reel mounts. Haven’t shot them in a decade or so but still have them. They are perfect fishing bows. Lightweight and easy to draw. If a fish is really close, you don’t even have to come to full draw. I always felt a certain satisfaction in bow fishing. I got to reach out and bite them to get revenge for all the times I went fishing and couldn’t get a bite. 😁
