When I change the air and cabin filters on our vehicles I always write the date and mileage on the new filter with a Sharpie. A few months ago I had changed them over the weekend. Wife took her car for an oil change later that week and sure enough they tell her both filters need changed. She called them out on their nonsense. Had that happen at the dealership where I bought my new truck when getting one of my free oil changes. I showed the print out to the maintenance manager and the recite for the new one I installed the day before. Said that is not the way to keep customers coming back for service. Once the free ones are over, I do my own.

I never go to a stealership for an oil change.

You'd be surprised how many people don't keep up with their vehicles mfg. scheduled maint. requirements. Something to think about when you buy a used vehicle.

They never recommended a single thing but continued to notify me for another year when my car was due scheduled changes. Evidently they have telemetry that gives them my mileage. They also knew when I passed 50k and asked if I needed a new car.

I let dealer do mine. I talk with service writer prior and never have any issues with up sales or problem with service (I call before I go just to make sure that service writer is at work)...Tundra was 92$ out the door 8 qts full synthetic and tire rotation. Ford with PS for oil change 15qts and rotation 144$ out the door. I used to do oil changes, but the hassle is not worth the savings anymore.

I have a good one about no records found. Years ago I took a truck to Walmart for oil change, in cleburne. It took alot longer than normal, I wandered around store, ate at the McDonald's in the store. Finally after an hour and a half or so they paged me that me vehicle was ready. Fast forward about 5 or 6 months I went to a jiffy lube to get it changed. They asked me to come down in the pit and take a look at something. Evidently Walmart had stripped the plug and used what appeared to be a 110 arc welder and had just welded to damn thing in there. I didn't keep the receipt at Walmart. I called them to discuss how we were gonna handle it and of course they had no record of ever servicing the truck.....

We don't drive much. So when our 2018 Rav4 ran out of complimentary oil changes, Bill Penny Toyota added on all these "Customer Requested" services. To the tune of over $600. Then one their minions came out and said I needed new tires. The car only had 36,000 miles. I got the service manager and told him all I had requested was an oil change and tire rotation. I told him to bring my car back and he would never see me again. I found a reputable independent mechanic that services Toyotas. My Ford has one more complimentary oil change left. When I have to pay for one, I'll see how Woody Anderson Ford treats me.
Birds of a feather, flock together.

Changed mine myself a couple days ago. Less than $40 for synthetic oil and a new filter.

Fumoto valve is your friend. We change all our own oil and filters around here, it takes longer to drain the the oil than everything else combined. Have 1 on Tundra. I like that I can drain straight to a jug. It does drain slow and with 8.5 quart capacity you have to switch jugs at some point. I drain into first jug and work on the filter. When I had free oil changes at dealership I told them up front not to waste their time and mine showing me the filters. The last time they changed it they over tightened the filter cap. I broke a filter wrench and the plastic cap removing it. Fortunately I was switching the cap to a metal 1. Also left a bolt out of skid plate and 1 bolt was not OEM. I gave them a 0 on survey. Service manager called me and explained why. He got me 2 skid plate bolts. When I picked them up he asked if I wanted them installed. I said nope will do it myself. Another time they underinflated my tires by 16 lbs. I was not happy when the TPMS light came on the next morning and I had to get the compressor out.
