Retirement is great. I don’t go anywhere I don’t want to…and these days it seems the list of places I don’t want to go to gets bigger and bigger. notice also, Wool E., that you don't get the flu and other transmittable diseases; the flu is everywhere here in Nac; Yep, here also, grandson and daughter both just getting over it. Flu shot seems to still be working for me … knock on wood

I just spent an hour and 33 minutes driving from Arlington to Joshua. I hate people. So many idiots on their phones not paying attention, swerving into other lanes, not going when the light is green, slamming their brakes for no apparent reason, driving 35 in a 70, etc. Geez, just put the dang thing down and DRIVE!

I was also a road warrior for many years. Started by driving all over the SE, staying in below average hotels and eating fast food carp all the time. Then I got a transfer to DFW and ended up traveling Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana pretty extensively for 25 years, fortunately on a higher budget. Then I started flying, all over the US, that I really hated.
I still like to take road trips, it’s in my blood I guess. I flew all over the country in the 80s and 90s. In the mid 90s most trips were to northern AL. I did not mind those flights too much. Flying into Birmingham and Huntsville was not bad compared to O'Hare, Portland, southern CA. I was working on turning around a plant in AL. I stayed on the lake in Guntersville. I lived in Roankoe at the time so short drive to DFW. Frequency was biggest issue for me. Out Monday and return on Friday for months at a time. I would not want to be flying like that these days.

My wife took a nice paying job around Dallas Market Hall in mid90s. First day took her 3.5 hours to get home (normally 45’) due to wreck on I30. She retired a week later

People are like fire ants. Huh? Hear me out. What does a fire ant know? All they know is the mound they share with a billion other ants, and the well worn trails they never wander from. Three feet away is unmolested, uncrowded territory, but they'll never know. If I lived in a mound, I wouldn't want to drive either. Freaking ants are nuts. But then you'd never see things you didn't know existed. Like Roswell to Santa Fe.

I drive from N Texas to Central Florida and back 2 times a year. I usually stop at a truck stop for about a 2 or 3 hour nap each way. I have a Jon boat/motor at my daughters so I can go fishing while I'm there so want my truck. I hate flying more than driving 24 hours straight.

I drive a bunch usually going to rodeos to watch Riley. I usually take the backroads. I know it might take me little longer but I've seen some pretty cool stuff.

When I started out in the Glass and Mirror business in Dallas in the 70's besides a Mapsco I ended up hand drawing a map. A big circle was 635, a vertical line in the middle was Hillcrest Ave and the horizontal line in the middle was Northwest Hwy. I then made shortcut notes in each quarter section for instance to know where areas like Richardson/Garland was at. For a few years I would take my Mapsco and make a small dot at jobsites for quick reference and just to see what areas had more jobs.
