I agree with most of what you've wrote, the climate change argument is a stretch.

The challenge along the coast in LA is that the primary fuel type (what burns) is grass and brush. There are no forests to manage, for the most part. Don't get this confused with other parts of CA.

I agree with the construction of fire breaks, but these are not necessarily effective if not utilized appropriately. Let me provide an example. You live in a neighborhood and everyone decides its time to construct a firebreak, its a 100' wide fire break cut along the outside perimeter of your neighborhood, all of the brush is cut and removed. It looks great. Then guess what? some grass grows in the unshaded fuel break, and it doesn't take much for a fire to spread right through the fire break.

Firebreaks are only affective if aggressive firefighting is conducted at that location. What I mean, is before the main fire impacts the area, firefighters are carefully burning out of the firebreak to prevent the spread of the main fire into the community. Burning out along fuel breaks is almost impossible in strong winds, and there are so many homes everywhere that your burnout will likely quickly get out of control. On a wildfire in timber, resources often have time to conduct such operations. Even building the fuel breaks with heavy equipment and crews, before burning it out. You can't do any of that in grass and brush.

These folks in California have chosen to live amongst steep hills/mountains, in homes that are challenging to access safely when a fire starts, and amongst fuels that spread quite fast and are very volatile.

I absolutely believe they should have reservoirs full of water, and systems that are able to deliver adequate water to the fire hydrants.

People in the news and media really get their words minced and its clear they know absolutely nothing about solving southern california's wildfire problem, which is unfortunate, because they are the messenger to the masses.

This problem is more on par with living in a hurricane prone area. People in FL know they are going to get hammered by a hurricane, they get hammered by a hurricane, and yet there they are, rebuilding their home. There is not much they can do about it, they just keep on going. Its about the same in LA in regards to fires, IMO.

Obviously things would be better if the political environment was better there, but the actual problem on the the ground in LA is here to stay.

In Florida they have hurricanes every year it seems that cause lots of damage. The govt started requiring anyone who got fed funds to rebuild where future hurricanes would not do as much damage.

Thats what Ca should do here. Anyone who gets assistance rebuilds in a way that reduces the risk in the future.
After this is over they should also change code to make fire prevention a priority for everyone in high risk areas.

Nobody living in Malibu is worried about fed relief funds, I doubt many multi millionaire celebrity types are calling FEMA anytime soon.

We saw about 30 fire trucks and several dozers headed north on 5 yesterday. Pretty sure they were headed home.

We didn’t see any smoke yesterday.

yeah both fires look like they released personnel yesterday, I'm sure those that came from far away are either staying on the fire, or being released but being held in the area just in case another one starts.
