When I was first able to go fishing again, I had hopes that lake worth would live up to the (outdated) fish rating on TPWD. "Crappie - Excellent"
I have been to that lake, and the crappie just didn't seem to be any good there. I hear people say they are good there but that is always second hand at least.
Nobody guides there. I have fished there enough and crappie were small in size and number I don't ever see anyone fishing there.
I think it went downhill for a couple of reasons
1. Dredging and removal of vertical structure 2. The consumption advisory on catfish has resulted in a lot of big fish in a small pond.
Anyone know a bit more out there?
Some people just like catching. I like fishing.

The consumption advisory is what drives most of us away. It is a good crappie lake - Dad used to take me back in the late 70's and early 80's - we killed them in the shallows in March and April
FYI - when you find a lake with lots of small fish, you just need to wait 4 to 6 months and go back because they grow fast.
My favorite lake is Ray Roberts -Been Crappie fishing it since 1990 - I fish the standing timber from May till October - in May you can get a good feeling of how the year will be. If the average size is 6" to 8" in May, they will be 10" to 12" by September.

at Lake Worth, while stationed at Carswell, we caught hundreds of crappie between 1974-1980 fishing a night out of a jon boat . used gas lantern hung over the side of the boat right in the middle of the lake 300-400 yards from the base ramp. Shad and minnows would circle the light by the hundreds. We'd fill our minnow bucket and fish about 12-15 feet below the light. Fishing at night at summer was a blast,..we caught crappie, sand bass, catfish, drum, all night long...just kept he bigger crappies. great fun...grest eating...

I definitely would give ot a excellent rating. I've had a few good days out there, never smashed them and limited out though. I usually hit up a few docks and the bridges with jigs. Never looked for any bruch piles, although I've heard there some out there.
