Ortho Orathene for the win. Sprinkle on the mound and they are all dead the next day. Right after a rain, fire ants swarm in the air and move queens out of the nest relocating to start a new nest some distance away. I used to find them in my swimming pool all the time after a rain. Buy a can of Orthene, open the lid and punch a few holes in the covering foil with a nail. Use that like a shaker to powder the mounds. STAND UP-WIND. I think that stuff actually "Stinks" them to death. One of the few animals that I can't figure out why God made em.
I'm glad there are wine drinkers in this world ..... it saves more beer for the rest of us. Hopper

I’m convinced fire ants are just alien scouts. Don’t bother trying to convince me otherwise.

…I have some of the Nagasaki grade Amdro left and will go after them with that. Mine is old and been in a hot sea container for a while but will see if it still works. …
I don’t think it holds up too well over time. I had a container in the garage that was probably 2 years old and the ants ate it all up to no effect. Got a new container from HD and they were dead the next day.

I’ve been at war with fire ants for a long time.
When killing ants you know what I want to see? Dead ants.
When you use over and out with water you’ll get a big pile of dead ants. Every thing else seems to just move them around.
I hate those vermin.
Over and out .. Over and out is what I use. Seems like it eliminates ants for about three months.

I don’t think it holds up too well over time. I had a container in the garage that was probably 2 years old and the ants ate it all up to no effect. Got a new container from HD and they were dead the next day. Well apparently mine must have not been as old as I thought it was. And a good chance it spent time in an open front shed that was shaded. At any rate, all mounds are now currently dead. I leave the red harvester ants alone to help boost the horny toad population out here. Appears to be no collateral damage to those ants. To see them working you’d think they were expecting a blizzard. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions - I really appreciate the help. I’m going to get some of that Orathene to have on hand in my arsenal.
