Hello! I am newly retired and ready to fish some lakes outside of the San Angelo area for hybrids and striper. EV Spence had striper before multiple golden algae blooms over 15 years ago killed them all. I am looking at going to PK at the end of July, staying at the state park. My question is simply can I find striper in that part of the lake or do I need to launch closer to the dam? I only have a 60 horse motor, so I don't want to waste time and gas going from the west side of the lake to the dam area when I can trailer to the dam area. Based on depth charts, it looks like there should be striper by the state park. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Its been a few years since I visited PK,too dadgum crowded, but right up the road from you is Fort Phantom.Johnson Park is right by the dam and directly across from Sailboat Point, where I load up on hybrids regularly.
Lake Graham is another excellent option for hybrids............I'm just not sure about overnight stays at the lake, I've stayed in the Best Western a few times. There are boat ramps on Eddleman Lake side and Graham side.
While I like PK I dislike crowded lakes ...........if I'm on PK it's December thru February when the fair weather city dwellers stay locked up in their homes.
Good luck wherever you go.

Thank you for the information. I have also looked at Phantom on YouTube. I will definitely fish it some in the future.

Retired Outdoorsman Ready to enjoy God's playgrounds! PK is fishing ok as of first of July. The trollers have just about taken over the lake from the damn dam north to Johnsons Bend. Fishing on weekdays can be a plus as weekends are a zoo ! Live bait as in shad early has been productive .
