Don't mess with flouro... Just take braid those fish don't care, I have my doubts it makes that big a difference here but that's another story.

I ran everything with 40 lb braid, except cranking rod... And my buddy who has been there 12 times did 100% braid. you can cast it a mile and I pulled a 9.5 and an 8.6 out of as big and nasty a tree as there is.

The guy who claims that he didn't see anything there that needs braid makes me laugh. water must have been really high when he was there.

I took 6 set ups... My buddy takes 8...

Medium heavy top water rod
Shorter medium heavy spinnerbait
Cranking rod
Deep worm/crig
Flipping rod/jig rod
Swimbait rod... We caught most on 4 inch swimmers, I threw the big ones some and got sick of watching ppl catch fish after fish in the boat with me

,,,,, you don't need braid ,,,,
throw whatever you throw here.
the man that said you don't need braid caught a 10+ on his 17 pound flouro & about another 250 fish to go with that one. .. plenty of 7s & 8s
No the water wasn't way up and yes we fished in the trees and on the rocks and out in deep water. we went for 5 days.
heck I didn't even use flouro --- I used 14 & 20 pound Suffix mono.
we had 3 rods each --- our reels, the lodges rods,,,, St Croix Bass X or whatever. @ Angler's Inn
JUST GO --- HAVE FUN
Mexico is not special in terms of equipment,,,,,,just in terms of catching fish. The bruise on the side of my belly is a testament to that.
Just take lots and lots of Magnum Watermelon Red Lizards --- if you don't take anything else.

I post this on just about every Mexico thread - 6 inch Yum Dingers in watermelon/pearl fished weightless will get you bit all day every day. Take a bunch.

something that worked for me on picachos,el salto and comedero is four reels...3 rigged with 20lb flouro and one rigged with 20lb mono for top water....take several packs of 5/16th weights and 5/0 hooks....lot of timber in this lake and you gonna get hung up and have to break off a lot....

You only really need 4 rods.

1 - medium heavy 7ft with 20lb line for morning topwater / weightless flukes
1 - Heavy 7'5 / 20-40lb for jigs
1 - Heavy 7'5 / 20-40lb line for spinners / swimbaits
1 - Heavy 7'ft with 20-40lb line for 1/4oz lizards for when you're fishing rock / land transitions. That's all you really need down there in Mexico.
I'm going to Comedero on Feb 18th and that's all I'm going to bring. Last year, I brought the whole kitchen along with 7-8 rods. I only used 4 rods with the presentations mentioned above.

Why bother with the hassle of taking rods. Speeds lodges have plenty of good rods to borrow.

Headed to Comedero at the end of march. Last time I went to el salto, 15-17LB did the trick, never had an issue. Never felt I need braid, but Comedero is a different story. Going to take a little heavier line for the brush in that lake.

They have the Dobyn Champion rods but you're luck to find some without missing guides. I wouldn't want to go on a 3000+ dollar fishing trip, hoping their rods are ok

Plus, it's only 50.00, depending on airline, to bring your own rods

been to picachos,el salto and comedero using their rods...plenty to choose from and really good quality....no need to risk getting your rods broken or lost .keep in mind you going to where the fish bite really good....you don't need super sensitive rods to detect a finesse bite....carrying 4 reels with 20lb line has worked for me on all 3 lakes....

I put a piece of 1" conduit that is about 4-6" longer than my rods, wrapped in bubble wrap, in my rod tube just incase something happens and it gets hung up. had a rod tube that got cratered once, so I go with the conduit now. haven't had an issue since.
