Wanted to share with you guys a variation of the Santee Rig I been tinkering with this summer that has been on fire. I been using a double hook Santee Rig that has 1 hook 8ft off the bottom and the second hook 24 inches off the bottom. I upsized the float to get the rig to ride right and also switched my slinky weight to 3oz. I had to add a couple of ball chain swivels to stop it from twisting too much. Drop it straight down instead of casting it out so as not to get tangled. Not sure how good it works any other time of year but its been on fire drifting these summer cats. I will post a pic of the rig this afternoon for those who are interested.

Interested. Been getting a few of the suspended fish by suspending my front rods and dragging the backs. How big a float you using?

2.5 oval pegged but I think a 3 oval would be better (just couldnt find any)...I run 1 vertical rigs suspended along with 2 planer rigs and 5 long lines. This long leader rig has out produced everything last 3 trips. I like to try new things and generally have some type of experimental rig on one pole just for $h@!z and giggles.

Yes dragging always out produces suspensed rigs for me. Thats why Im interested in trying this new rig, dragging behind me with bait suspended 8ft sounds deadly.

I bought some Dollar General party balloons so I could use as floats. Fully adjustable to increase or decrease relevant to weight size and drift speed. Golf ball size inflation is about right for 2-3 oz.. I just started testing with them lately. They definitely take up less tackle space and are much cheaper than foam. Might give them a try! They tie right on, just go twice around the line and they won't slip.

Give it a shot Blues!....some days it can be lethal! Its a bonus fish when you catch one on that long leader. Like catching one on a planer rig, you know you probably wouldnt have caught the fish without it... Somedays you dont catch squat on them and somedays you catch most of your fish on the bonus poles.

I might get rid of the dropper loop and replace with a 3 way swivel eliminating one of the chain swivels but not sure. It rides pretty good now but still refining the rig to my liking. Any help would be appreciated amigos!

Forgot to mention I also acquired a sharpie maker to write messages on my balloons. "Bite me" seems to trigger very aggressive strikes!

I couldnt afford to drag that fancy rig on Cooper. It likes to eat them up.
