My Dads fridge went out in his rv. Thought about replacing with a small house hold unit.but we don’t know if we can get the old one out?
Any ideas or experience with these?

If it was put in by a person it can probably be removed by one. Start taking out the trim around it and unscrew the screws that held it in place. Once done remove it and then make sure the new frig fits in the hole. I know I didn’t offer much help, but if you complete this job, next time someone asks the same question I’ll refer them to you.

Youtube has a lot of videos from basic to custom remods. Here is a basic vid. Remove the old fridge from the inside.

When I had a frig. replaced in my previous motor home they had to remove a large window to get it out and the new one in. Too big to go through the door.

This has worked on the 3 that I have owned and quit working. - Remove from the cabinet. - Turn it upside down on the table. - Leave it there for 48 hours. - Turn it back up right and I bet it will work and not fail for a long time. - This happens when they are not exercised properly and sit being unused for several months at a time.

Mud dobbers are a big problem on fridge pilots and heaters. A trick that keeps them away is take a medicine bottle drill holes in it and fill it with moth balls. Place a bottle in every compartment of the unit especially the appliances something about the moth balls keeps insects out. Ive been doing it for years and had no more issues.
Another issues maybe this open the exterior louvered panel and see if you see a yellow substance on the cooling coil pack if so the amonia has have leaked out. All you need is a coil pack and you can buy these from a remanufacturer with a core charge. It is fairly easy to replace and you do not need to remove the unit from inside the RV. Get a milk crate and slide it onto the crate turn it and unscrew it and replace it. Just make sure you tighten it all the way it uses transfer mastic and if it is not tightened/bedded it will not cool properly. Though when these units are built its from inside out but you can usually get it out the door. And if he is dead set on removing it and cant through the door use a reciprocal saw and cut it in half and junk it

Before taking out the existing fridge, I would measure doors and windows to figure out how the new one would get into the RV. My parents have a coach with a house size fridge. If it needs to be replaced, it would be taken out the front windshield. It might be cheaper and easier to repair the existing.

I bought my camper with fridge not working and don't wanna pay the $1000 replacement. They only last 10 years....if you don't use them 247. Doh..... This might be an idea to try for me when I find spare time one day. Mine hasn't worked in 10+ years.

I put a small apartment sized refrigerator in my old camper. I can't wait for my new camper's fridge to go out so I can do the same with it. It was something like this one... https://www.lowes.com/pd/Whirlpool-10-7-...-Steel/50301523It set me back like $400. Some quick measurements and a look on lowe's or home depot will find you the right one. I had to make one small cut to get mine to fit(1/2 inch too tall), but once trim is put around it you have a nicer, larger fridge than before.

RV refers can often be repaired easily. They are very simple. Unless it lost all the coolant.
