love my motor, had it for 12 years. However this thing passes everything but a gas station. I spent 350.00 in 2 weekends in fuel. I also never ran the boat past 60 mph as i was covering pros last weekend and fished yesterday doing normal stuff..My question is this...I spent $100 in fuel yesterday alone and that is a normal day. Do the newer motors (250's) do ALOT better in fuel consumption? Just looking for feedback..

Bought a new Z-9 with a 250 pro xs about 3 months ago. 68 gallon fuel tank and have only filled to about 7/8 full, fished mcgee creek oklahoma for 4 days and eagle mountain every weekend and just now at approx 5/8 tank. Not the run and gun type and am very impressed at the fuel economy. And that includes many wide open runs and also steady cruise speeds of 60mph. Hope this helps.

Thanks that does help. I am def the run and gun type so i am sure no matter what i will be spending $$$. However everyone (dealers) i have met since owning this boat claim i could buy a newer boat and save the fuel $$$. Starting to wonder, I put $100-$150 in that beast every weekend

I hear you on the gas AND oil. But, I love mine!! To answer your question, the newer 250's do get better GPH than ours. The EFI motors (especially the XB) aren't as fuel efficient.

Thanks DKennimer....From a speed stand point nothing compares (new vs the xb) however the gas is killing me $$$. Bought i new and love it but just kicking tires to see if it makes sense or not vs new motors (i.e new boat too but doing the math).

I do remember a 250 XB on a 20 foot Ranger compared to my boat around 2000 or 2001. We were fishing Rayburn and running way up north.
The XB was running almost 40 gallons a day when my Ranger 518 and 200 Opti was only using 22 gallons. Thats not a complete story since I don't know exactly how much running around he was doing compared to me but it was enough to surprise both him and me.

You could buy a lot of gas for the price of a new rig... If your happy with your boat too, I see no reason to change. But, only you can make that decision. Good luck!!

Also, you might consider only filling the tank 1/2 full and try to keep the RPM's between 4500-5000. That's where they run the cleanest, thus getting the best MPG. Which is about 3 MPG. Not far off of what the newer boats do. But, once you get 5800-6100, you can watch the gas gauge drop before your eyes. You might try a different prop that will help get the bow and stern out of the water, thus causing less drag. What boat and prop are you running?

I have the xb on a 21' ProCraft...nothing burns more fuel than an xb.It's best is about 2.7 mpg if you baby it.The newer motors get closer to 4-5 mpg if you baby them...they all get about the same if they are run wot.

I think all good comments. I will say the new XP 250's, they are also known for the best MPG at WOT. I Agee with you can but a lot of gas for the difference in a newer motor. I think the new 250 are in the 18,000 range yours would trade around 3500. 14,500 is a lot of gas. just my .02

2002 triton tr-21. not sure the prop...past 2 weeks i have run alot but nothing over 4500 on the RPM. I agree gas is cheaper than a payment. Sounds like a rig I used to own. Did I sell you that boat?
