My dad and I are purchasing a new Z8 this week and I'm racking my brain over a Bow graph! I know some are going to say HDS but frankly I cannot see myself using SI up front! I've decided on the HDS 9 Touch at the console so I can swap back and forth on my Tracker and the Z8!

So my question is to those who have the Elite-7 HDI up front! How are you guys liking it? For those who don't like it please state why and what graph you have switched to! I appreciate it!

I've got the Elite 7 HDI at the bow and the Touch 9 at the console. I keep don't care about SI at the bow so the Elite 7 is perfect for me. Awesome unit for the price. Images are as good as the Touch 9.

I've been using one on the bow for about 6 months. Only small issue is that it takes longer than I would expect to start. For the money, it is an awesome little unit.

I would look at the Elite 7 Chirp that's just coming out. Should have a little sharper images than the current models.

Hope this helps.

I was also wondering how this unit works. Academy has them on sale this week.

Have it on the front of mine - nice picture - nice wide screen. For a while I ran it split between sonar and structure scan but lately been just running sonar - as you said for the price very nice unit.

Does the Elite- 7 only come in the chartplotter model? If so why do ppl need gps at the bow. That may me a dumb question and if so please forgive me, I'm trying to get caught back up with the fishing world. I've been out of it for about 15 years and things have changed a lot.

As stated above this unit is on sale at Acadamy's for $599, and don't forget to download the rebate form from Lowrance, there is a $100 rebate on this unit thru June 14. So you'd be getting it for $499.

Got one and love it. Check to make sure that price is the Gold package that includes the transducer and chip.

And I know who "Jeff" is.

Have one on my bow. Great unit for the price. Make sure you get the latest software version installed if you go that route.

I'm pretty sure what Academy has on sale is NOT the Gold package

Are they compatible with the HDS Gen1 units?

I have the Elite 7 with GPS on the bow. I like it when trying to follow a creek channel thru some flats. Allows me to keep the boat positioned around the edges and know where the creek goes, instead of guessing based off graph.
The unit itself is very nice. The price point is even better.
