If its in the water, it's a water moccasin. If its on land, it's a rattle snake. Give me chills just looking at em

There are only 4 poisonous snakes in Texas. Rattlers, copperheads, cottonmouths, and coral snakes. Learn to identify those 4 and their varieties and you'll never have to worry about it, at least in Texas.

I grew up hunting river bottoms and creek bottoms and snakes were just part of the landscape pretty much. I used to kill pretty much anything venomous or threat to my livestock such as chicken snakes; had two double team and eat half of 25 baby chicks in one night I had just purchased, they died for their trouble...We had a pet king snake in our barn that used to reside under the hay bales in the barn. If I picked up a bale and he was under it I'd just put it back, I knew he was there hunting rats, mice, and other snakes. He always scare me until it registered in my brain it was our king snake......

I have always been told if a snake has cat eyes they are poisonous. Not that you want to be that close to tell if they have them or not ! I think most are not but the only good snake is a dead one.IMO

I am not sure if this happens in water but if your close to a Cottonmouth on land you will most likely smell it before you see it. The Cottonmouth usually puts off a pretty strong sent when something is walking up on it. I live on lewisville near corp property and see all kinds of snakes but most are non-venomous.

Funny, when I got there Friday afternoon she described it to me. I instantly said "banded water snake". We never saw it again but I'm sure that's what it was. I see water snakes 20-to-1 over cottonmouths. Chumbug, yep on the musk glands. She took our Lab to be de-snaked a month or so ago. She (blueskies) could smell the moccasin before she got to it.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.
