Been thinking about getting a PP and wondered if anyone has had any problems with the up and down movement caused by wake boats. It seems like they would slam into the bottom with every wave.
Is this an issue?

Thanks,
Doug

if I was to buy one or the other it would be talons.
I am still not sure about the power pole leverage and what it may be able to do to a transom, a 4' arm sticking out the back and pushing on bottom just seems to exert a lot of leverage against the transom.
add to that the length of the boat and you have a lot of force concentrated at the mount point.

Hop there are Thousands of boat new and old running poles and has been for 12-13 years with ZERO transom problems.

That's like saying I'm unsure of putting my boat on pad bc I'm worried about the pressure on the transom

Now get out there and go catch a few big ole chunks!

I think they have a built in relief valve which probably addresses this concern.

But you are not afraid to load the boat on a trailer and then pull it up a bumpy boat ramp with that big mean outboard bouncing up and down?

Is this an issue? If your worried about them being damaged then just watch the video with the air boat, if your worried about the transom then I would have to get a different brand boat. I hate wake boats.

Thanks,
Doug

I don't bounce it up a ramp.

yep but remember too that my boat is an 82 model, different construction and even though it is a champion I am not all that sure it could handle the added stress on the transom (I have rebuilt my transom with seacast too).

both are good but for my application I would just be more comfortable with the talons I think.

now TAKE ME FISHING lol.

My concern would be would it hold as the boat is bobbing over that wall of water.

Google the torture tests for power pole and watch some videos. Them things are bullet proof! Even better ... they are fisherman proof!

To the transom issue ... I don't think the stress and torque they exert on the transom is anything closely compared to the pressure that outboard and prop put on the transom at any time during the use of a boat. Except maybe during the impact of a stump or log.

Mine mounts to the jackplate. I'd bet a single pole doesn't apply enough pressure to offset the weight of the motor, two MIGHT come close to applying that much pressure.

Talons have rough water feature that lets the pole re find the bottom!

I just can't see how Power Poles when deployed can but any more stress on a transom than an outboard does while its running. Most PP plate adaptors are mounted on jackplate anyway it seems.

I would agree that is the most stress a transom sees unless you count hitting a stump flush on the lower unit while running on pad!

the stress point would still come down to bolts & washers on the transom, but probly a moot point

There are no issues with Power Poles and big waves. There is a lot of give in them when deployed. No ever had an issue and I fish in waves all the time.

(2foot rollers on worth last night , no issue at all)
40 mph wind on Squaw last month, power pole down no issues. Maybe a little water over the back occasionally, but functionality wise, perfect.

You will not regret getting them.

Not to stoke the powwer pole v. talon debate but I can give some personal experience with both. Was going to purchase Talons due to easier install. But after waiting on the new Talons to come out I decided on power poles.I recently fished with someone who has Talons and was not inpressed with their holding power. If you deployed while moving at normal trolling motor speed the boat wound not come to a complete stop for 10 or more feet and seemed to take quite a long time to hit bottom.Power poles will stop a 21 ft boat right when they touch down. Maybe not a big deal. I can tell you this, regardless of which you choose, they are a great addition to your boat!

I may be totally wrong but it just seems that the leverage exerted by power poles would be like the difference between prying open a paint can with a dime or a 14" screwdriver.

lots of effort from the dime to pry open but none at all with a 14" screwdriver, this is the principle I am basing my guesses on.

have no experience with power poles but have fished in a boat with talons a couple of times.

newer boats it would not be an issue but with mine built the way it is it just makes me wonder.

can't afford the things anyway so moot point for me.
