There's purple above the gill and a very, very faint tobacco colored line down the side. I think the bluish May be a result of the carpet reflecting off the scales There ya go..good eye & here's why: scales have no color and act as a prism, the color is in the skin beneath. This pertains to shad not so much with other fish like say a carp...to cook the noodle a little further..how do I know if the shad in the pic is wet or dry? am I looking at it through a fine film of water? In the making of it the question to be answered is What color does the fish see and key on? The one question we as anglers never get answered...

Not being a smart arse at all but I think no matter what when the fish sees the shad/bait it will be wet. It being dry I would think would not have bearing on how the fish sees its. I have always felt the same about matte finish hardbaits.

That first run of gizzard shad that you did years ago looks a lot like (to me) what Mark is talking about. It is still your best shad IMHO. For Alan Henry anyway.

Super work as always, Jeff. I still have 2 of the small Line-throughs you made me. Saving for a private crystal-clear Lake I pulled a 8.5lb. Easter morning. Gonna try 'em this weekend.

Great point Mark (no arsedom taken) and makes mine at the same time...what we see out of the water is going to be different than what the fish sees in it and then you combine the variables...light angle, view angle, water clarity and the list goes on. One thing I believe most of us can agree on when a swimbait is involved is there is a trigger element(s) whether it's action, food source available or possibly color or combinations. I always bring myself back to one thought...I'm trying to fool a finned creature with a brain the size of a walnut which lives to do 2 things eat & propagate. Not being a smart arse at all but I think no matter what when the fish sees the shad/bait it will be wet. It being dry I would think would not have bearing on how the fish sees its. I have always felt the same about matte finish hardbaits.

 Snagged this one on Lake Palestine a month or so ago. I had never seen one in two years of fishing the lake and was surprised it was a much darker color and a more reddish/yellow along body and tail a slightly different color. North end of lake, flat creek.

Maybe you will gain another customer.
