Caught a couple of drum over the weekend. Hooked into one with light tackle too! And put em back in the water to fight another day. Was wondering if anyone here cooks these bulldozers lol A gentleman there said they get parasites when grown over 34' is that true? Never seen these 'parasites' does anyone have a pic?

Short answer: yes, 'puppy' size black drum are good to eat. Just be sure that you're aware of the size limits.
Larger black drum do tend to host parasites - worms for example - but so far as I know, they're harmless when cooked thoroughly. Still, I would stick with the smaller slot size fish.

15 to 25 inch fish are great for the table. Any fish can have parasites. Just cook them right.

Puppy Drum are Red Fish. That is what they are known as on the northern east coast.

We're not on the east coast, and puppy drum in Texas are Black Drum under 5lb, give or take. They are better tasting than Redfish.

Drum have a whiter meat than a redfish filet and are firmer than a trout filet.
They are good off the grill and I will even put some in my homemade gumbo as well.

I'll be trying for some next week in Galveston. They seem to be running well there... They will disappear once I get there
