Great post and pics as usual. I used to camp at Goat Island. Want to go back but I've heard the giant Salvinia has made it too much trouble to paddle to it.

Thanks for the pics Louis. They are awesome. Knowing you as I do, I bet you put in plenty of miles in that kayak seat on that trip. Hope you didn't lip that pickerel. Lots of miles Michael...launched from Crips early on Thursday morning, fishing was better there as more open water but wanted to see the area further north and launched from state park and made the 4 mile paddle to area where most of the pics were taken. Was going to stay and fish Saturday too but was worn out and headed home late Friday night. Lots of history about Caddo. At one time, 278 offshore wells dotted Caddo Lake. http://www.caddolakedrawbridge.com/Frames/Drilling.htm

It's a cool place for sure. I've been there twice. Once in high school I spent a few days camping and fishing from a bass buster. The fishing was good to great for numbers. And last year took my wife and we fished from kayaks. Fishing was good then too. Another really interesting spot is the big cypress( I think that's the name) put in. There's a nice ramp in Jefferson. I put in there one afternoon last summer and went downstream a couple miles. Only caught dinks but the action was steady despite not fishing in prime time. Don't know how far it is from there to the lake but it is a pretty paddle.

Incredible pics man. Love those trees. I will definitely be making a trip to this lake this summer. Now that I know there's a new species to chase (besides gators), I'm even more excited about it. Great stuff Louis.

I think we need to plan an Open invite to Caddo Lake sometime soon. Make it an over night camping trip. Might be a good idea for the Mariner Sails Kayak Fishing Club.

Grew up fishing Caddo with my Dad and brother. He called that pickerel a Jack fish, and we caught dozens along Government ditch, where we knew we could get 'em to hit a white H&H when the bass weren't biting just for the action. Those pics really bring back my childhood, drinking Hytop root beer and with our Vienna sausage and saltines midway through the day. Knew we were living the high life when Dad upgraded to Nehi, Slim Jims and Ritz crackers! Be careful of those blinds in the summer, wasp nests that look like a manhole cover, and hornets nests the size of Labrador.
Took those days for granted, and by mid-teens was refusing to wake up early enough to go with him. What I wouldn't give . . .
