I agree that the pictures don't do her justice, you can't really see the belly on her in the picture. If you looked at her from above you could see her belly on both sides sticking out pretty far. i will get my scale checked and post when I figure out if it is off or not. Unfortunately at the pond I didn't have my accurate digital scale smirk

The fish does look a bit short for a 9 pound fish, but, it also looks like it's really fat, and probably pretty thick.

Any carp in that pond? Hehe.

No matter what when someone posts a picture of a bass, someone has to tell them it looks short. Looks like a 9lb bass to me but Im just a stupid cat/crappie fisher!! violin

It looks like he's going to have to go and catch it again and get a pic of the scale!

If you're talking to me, I meant the second half of my comment, the part about it being really fat and pretty thick, to mean that I agreed it was probably a 9 lb fish. The extra size would make up for the shortness of the fish.

Hey! I fish there too. In fact, my three largest bass have come from there (similar size to yours). 1 from a crankbait, and two from a storm curlytail swimbait. That pond is built funny, it's really shallow in the middle. The sweet spot is a 5' ditch that runs to about 15 feet from shore. It's on the opposite side of the bank from where you are, and runs for about 100' from where the pond drains into the next one. Keep on releasing those chunks so we can catch them again! I could only imagine if all of us kept our big bass from there frown If anyone wants to fish that pond hit me up. I go to UTD so I'm really close.

Starless I was not talking about you. I could see where your comment was positive in nature!! I just love when a guy puts a pic of some chunk on there and everybody tells what they think it weighs. Starless there is a place in my hometown of Des Moines Iowa called buzzard billy's flying carp cafe. They have great food!!!

Do you think that you might have read the scale upside down ? You know, maybe that 9 was really a 6. banana

Cool, Brian. I used to like posting pictures and carp and buffalo on here and asking for guesses on the weight...it was always interesting to see who was really close and who was really far off. Kinda fun.

Maybe someday I'll get to do it again! Lol.

You're from Des Moine? Cool, my Aunt lives there! Some good looking spots for carp in the area, especially the big rivers.

My dad actually grew up in Ames, Iowa!

Buzzard Billy's Flying Carp Cafe? Lol, that's great! Sounds like my kind of place. Any reason in particular they call it that? Got a big stuffed carp with wings added or something? What's their specialty, carp? It can be good when properly prepared.

I don't know if they even sell carp or not. It's kinda like a swamp, vodoo, New Orleans feel kinda resteraunt. I always used to catch big carp when fishing for walleye in the cold months below the dam on the Des Moines river. They would hit my white 1/4 jig w/twirl tail like an 18 wheeler. And this is around the tailraces of the spillway in the white water when I got em.

We should get together sometime and you can show me how you guys get em down here! I used to catch em in the summer on worms.

Sounds like a good restuarant!

As for that carp, that's awesome! A lot of people don't realize they will not only hit artificials, but hit them HARD!

And as for other baits, Nightcrawlers always make good carp bait! I caught tons of carp up north on worms. And on leeches.

They can definitely be caught on worms down here as well, though lately I really prefer corn to other carp baits. Doughbaits really work well too, especially those made from wheaties cereal.

I'd be more then happy to get together with you some time for some carping!

Unless you're 6'5", I don't see that fish going over 7lbs. Could be stuffed full of food though. Either way, that's a real nice fish and bravo for the catch and release! Too bad camera's don't add 10lbs to fish!!

Checked my scale with a 10 pound dumbell weight and it weight about 10.2 - 10.3. So benefit of the doubt, it was definitely heavier than 8.5, and yes the belly was very stuffed. Biggest one I have caught there since her was about 4 or 5 lbs, still hoping for a double-digit.

2 oz. off on a cheap scale is pretty good! I remember this scale I had as a kid....It was plastic, with a spring...which had a little piece of plastic that would supposedly tell you the weight. It only took up space in my tackle box.
