If you are south of mile marker 17 you're too far south.

We are heading to Lake Amistad early this Saturday. Hope to be on the water at first light. Ive been watching all the reports about the fishing and have not heard anything encouraging. After the fiasco at Falcon last month, Id like to get into some 'catching'....any one got any helpful advice/comments/recommendations? If you really want some catching ---Sounds like you need to slide on down to Sugar. As For Amistad.. The cold fronts have kept pushing back what spawn we will see this year.. It should be just about right within the next 30 days to be as good as it will get this year... I don't think anyone will argue it's going to be tougher than It's been for years.. If you go, I would concentrate on spawning flats and coves..and target spawning fish...Be them pre spawn or on the beds... Just go in with the mindset that you are not going to catch a lot of fish and make the best of being on the water.. If you don't want to run upriver.. head up the San Pedro. The last two coves on the north side just before the bridge had some decent numbers moving up two weeks ago..Red rattle trap..red jerkbait and G-pumpkin lizard. The coves on the left between Mama's island and Burrow. Also had some bucks moving up..

When is it a 'bad" time to go to Amistad??
You could skip all that water all to yourself and hit Fork or a DFW lake with a couple thousand half drunk clowns blasting by you.

Seems it lets up just long enough to change direction. Then go again.. Watched it blow A guy on a Harley over today.. Good thing he was not going fast.

Fished yesterday and today. It is not bad fishing. We caught a lot of bucks. Nothing huge but good numbers. Fished up the devils and the houseboat cove. Saw some beds here and there but u think it is still a week it two from being full on spawn. Good luck out there!

Would you need a Texas license if your fishing the Mexican side only? Do you have to be in the act of fishing or just have the gear? Just curious

I know I need a Mexican license. I mean a Texas fishing license if launching on the Texas side and fishing on the Mexican.

You will have some explaining to do if the US Fish and Game spot you and search when you return to the US side of the river channel. Legally though if there is no equipment out of the compartments and you never come over to the US side my answer would be no you do not have to have one; unless I have missed something. I have not read the regulations for state parks.
Every time you make a move, I would put everything away if you are coming back out to the river channel to move down the lake. Simply call Texas Parks and Wildlife and ask.
