Does anyone make rod holders that are sturdy and will hammer into the ground? I don't want the ones that will fall apart, good iron ones!

Go get some 24 inch 3/8 or 1/2 inch rebar. 12 inches of 1 1/2 or 2 inch PVC and hose clamp the PVC to the rebar. Cheap tough and easy

I did something similar. Work great. 2" pvc pipe, 3/8" allthread rod and some big worm gear hose clamps. I built 5 for $20 worth of material in about an hour. Got all the stuff at Lowe's.

They push into the ground very easily.
In hard ground, just put your weight on it a little. No problem. I've never had to use a sledge.

I have had to use a hammer a time or two myself. I use what Tom said. 24 inch rebar and 1 1/2 inch PVC in 11 inch length. You can use a roll of electrical tape if that is all you have and it is very strong.

I use the same pvc and hose clamps, but I use the slick rods that are cut to 24 inches and have a point on one end. Stiffer than rebar and easy to drive.

Problem is, I don't have the right tools to cut the rebar. I need a welder

Home Depot etc has pre cut lengths or just cut it with a hack saw. Cut it about halfway thru and snap it off

Get some rebar, pvc and some clamps and bring them over and let's make some up, I've got a grinder and metal wheel cutting blade that will cut thru the rebar and a dremmel that we can modify the pvc pipe to fit your liking on the rods similar to what kingfisher did with his, I've also got some pvc cement if you want to put bottom caps on them. I've never done them before but we can make up some good ones, I'm in saginaw which is about ten minutes away from Hurst.
