I don't with jigs, but is easier with minners.

The only time I ever use a swivel is when running jug lines. I never use a swivel when fishing jigs or minnows.

I've never used swivels while using jigs, I think it might spook 'em!!!! I'm open to hearing why it would be a good thing though!!! "thump"

I have used swivels on minnows and on the top jig in the past. It was for ease of use and to keep line twist to a minimum with minnows for my wife.
However since I installed the mercury vapor underwater light I have been able to observe the action of fish as they approach the bait in the light.
I have watched several large bass swim up to a minnow or jig, suspend and watch the minnow or jig for a few minutes, then swim back under cover. I have seen this action with both minnow and jig.
I have watched bluegill and white bass do the same thing. I have never seen crappie approach bait in the light.
So when I return to fishing I am going to try crappie rigs that have metal arms from the swivel, then use a drop leader from the wire arm to the hook. I am also going to down size the hooks I normally used.
I will see if this makes a difference. If it makes a difference in the light pool then it should make an even greater difference in the normal lighting of the lake.

I do when running a tandem at night. More weight and easier to replace a jig and not have to tie. My night vision is going bad.

I do when using a floro leader when using braid. But you know, I probably caught 2-1 on my 6 lb mono vs braid, swivel and 10lb floro leader, side my side (same bait, rod in each hand). Maybe it was the swivel?

I tried that last year on braid with leaders about 18 inches long to much hassel for me and with our mostly turbid waters it done much matter I my opinion

Have never used a swivel. Just doesn't look right is my only reasoning.
