Can anybody tell me where I can find the legal information about fishing out of a boat near marinas and boat slips?

Its funny, there is a dock on Lake Austin that has a "no fishing around dock" sign on it. Just guarantees that every angler that comes by is going to fish his dock, just because.

So even a marina cant regulate fishing around docks? Sounds like they can't.
Several of the marinas have signs saying no fishing with 200 ft etc of the docks or marina. Sounds like you can ignore those signs.

In Texas, as long as you don't physically touch or enter a boat slip, you are legal.

Yep, make sure you highlight the part about how "harassing a fisherman" is a crime

Just keep in mind that while you may certainly be within your rights, some of those dock owners can be downright fanatical. Several years back a fisherman was killed over neat New Orleans, even though LA laws are nearly identical to ours when it comes to docks and fishing around them. I'm sure your spouses would love to hear you at least died for a good cause. And no, I don't live on a lake and/or own a dock. All I'm saying is be careful and pick your battles.

^^^This^^^

Just because you're right (and legal) doesn't mean you can't be dead. It's somewhat like that old phrase, "I had the right-of-way, but the other guy had a Mack truck."

In my personal opinion, it would be better to back away and be able to fish another day. If, however, the dock owner has made your life particularly difficult, you might consider backing away and calling the local game warden to report being harassed. You could then fish his dock while the game warden writes him the ticket.

I you can access it from a boat and cast in public water it's legal. Have had several homeowners from Conroe and Livingston try and shoe me off their dock. Never got violent just words spoken by them. I just kept my mouth shut ignored them and kept fishing. I had a homeowner on Conroe after I pulled a 7# hog from under his dock run out and tell me that was his fish. He had been feeding it for months. I said thanks for dinner and put it in my livewell.

People get weird about their docks. We had one guy up here who had iron rods projecting just under the water off his dock.....to destroy nets when people throw for bait under his lights.

Years ago fishing Lake Lewisville for catfish during high water conditions, guy comes up to the shore in a golf cart and tells me I have to leave, said I was on the golf course. I was in my boat and yelled back, no I'm not I'm on the lake !! Man they were pissed !! Said they would call the cops, I told them to go ahead as I was on the lake. Would have been a nice trick getting a 21' CC onto a golf course. Some guy is gonna be digging through a bush looking for his golf ball and get snagged by a treble hook wondering how the heck that ever got there.
