Hey Grout, I see where they did use the term "close" in their language asking for comment.
However, read the proposed language of the new law in my original post. It simply says they will not allow harvest. I think the reasonable interpretation of this is just tickets if they catch someone with an alligator gar during the period declared similar to taking other game out of season.

Maybe they should change it to allow only noodling for alligator gar during the spawn... sound's like a good compromise. popcorn

I never said anything about the biologist. The commissioners are not biologists or scientists, that was my point. They are money men APPOINTED by the governor. How are why would they pass down directives to the biologists? If they are appointed, how is that they can represent me?

Darn right, Wendy Davis in 2014!!!! C'mon who's with me and Texas Two Guns! Let's get rid of those old Perry cronies.
Down with the money men. Making money is evil and a sure sign of poor decision making skills!

YEP, A BACHELOR'S, A MASTER'S AND A PHD TO EARN THAT CUSHY HIGH PAYING JOB AS A STATE FISHERIES BIOLOGIST. THEY ARE DEFINITELY IN IT FOR THE MONEY.

I ASSUME BY YOUR USE OF THE TERM "POWERFUL MONEY MEN" YOU NOW WANT TO MAKE THIS A CLASS ISSUE. WOW WHO SOUNDS LIKE OH HOW DID YOU PUT IT AN "O" voting college instructor" ?

"I always cheer up immensely if when an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single logical argument left. -Margret Thatcher

Lets not get carried away here.. These guys, for the most part, and nothing taking away from them, have a degree in marine biology.. Like you get a degree in education or engineering..

You think these guys are Doctors? Not that it would matter.. Because only hands on experience in the field is worth squat in this arena because there is no doctorate program in Alligator gar..

They may have learned the scientific name of alligator gar in college and a few particulars about their biology.. But I guarantee you there was not a course named Alligator Gar 101..

It's a common misconception, but on the whole, marine biologists work in ocean/saltwater environments. Inland fisheries biology is conducted by freshwater biologists.

Your such a goober. My whole intention was to point out that these appointed men are making decision that effect us and wildlife, but they are NOT SCIENTISTS. They should rely on the science that we pay for to make decisions on not hand down directives based on knee jerk reactions.

LOL, just joshing you. I like the trophy tag idea. What do you think?
If they really are going to close an area to all fishing, I will oppose.

I hate it, but if something had to be done I might could get behind it.
It would have to be set up right, so that the numbers could be recorded
and cataloged.

Basically they have established these gar as gamefish, but not really.
Same as flounder.

I'll second that.

What length based growth rates?
Also do you have Dan Bennet's study?
