What is the worst fishing advice you have ever received? How did it work out for you? Exp.: techniques, laws, equipment, patterns, etc.

As true as it can be, its too dangerous to take seriously and that is that fishing picks up before a storm.

Wasn't really bad advice, but I implemented it in other situations where I shouldn't have. Fishing with a guide about six years ago with single hook hollow bodied swim baits. I was setting the hook vertically and he recommended a side sweep hook set. The technique worked really well in his huge Ranger and from the shore, but when I adopted the technique for swim baits out of my kayak, I was losing some fish until I returned to vertical hook set--didn't have the room or leverage to set the hook this way in a small boat/kayak.

I knew a guy who claimed to have won multiple tourneys, awards, etc show me a "better" knot than the clinch knot I had been tying my whole life. It looked like he tied about 6 half hitches and cinched it down. I looked him right in the face and said, that's going to come undone. "No its not, I've been using it for years, bla bla bla."
The lure was a Chug Bug, and the first fish he hooked pulled that lure off of the knot. He stared complaining about cheap line breaking, more bla bla bla. When he reeled his line up I grabbed it and looked at the end, you could see clearly where his knot had come untied. And about every 2 minutes that 3lb fish would jump trying to throw that Chug Bug and you could hear it rattle all the way across the pond. I would just look at him and smile.
I still only use 3 knots for the most part, and that clinch knot is my #1, I've been tying it since I was 3 or 4 years old.

Him- "I know a cove about four miles from here that I catch 8 to 10 pound bass every time I come to this lake"
Me- "When was the last time you fished this lake?"
Him- "1997"
Me- (after driving for 30 minutes in 4 foot waves and not finding any cove) "Is this the spot?"
Him- "I guess it must have been another lake."
