Made my first crawfish trap, had some time to kill and scrap material laying around and threw this together.

Set it today baited with hotdogs. If its not raining I'll check it tomorrow

How wide are the holes? If I was you ide give the main chamber more space and make sure the entrance holes r wide enough. Next time throw some bacon or chicken necks in it.

It really looks good!
You may want to place more wire to close in the square wire gaps..Looks like the gap openings are a little wide for the crawdads..They may just eat your hot dogs and walk right out..I would make the gaps a little harder for them to escape..They can get in but they can not get out.You would be surprised how small a hole the big ones can squeeze through to escape..
Bacon does work better..oiler and tougher, they can sense it in the water better.
I do like your trap though.!

I would suggest adding a bait chamber but the funnels look too close together for that. I'd wrap bacon and a 1-2oz sinker in cheesecloth and hang the bundle from the top.

edited to add: And yes, the holes look a little large for a crawfish trap.

Agree with above. Holes look to be at least 3/4" big if not more. 3/8" would be more ideal. Plus those guys aren't really out in full force with all the cold fronts were getting this year. If we can stay in the 60's and 70's for more than 2 or 3 days you wil get em

Update:

Success! Caught 7 today in the smaller design with only one open end.
worked great-little buggers were hard to get outta there.

Couple big guys like this but the rest were average.

Reset the trap-Hopefully I'll have more tomorrow.

I'm assuming to eat em. Only a few hundred more and you got a meal. Just gotta keep em alive for a long time

These were added to an Aquaponics greenhouse system on the property.

Caught 7 more today. Just need more traps now haha

and keeping them alive wont be a problem. Got a 50 gallon bucket with gravel in it and an air rock running.
during the summer its my bait bucket. cast net + one of those on your porch = free live bait
