Anybody received their 'spotlight' transducer yet? I'm still waiting and David says 4-7 is the date he has right now. Anxious to read what you guys think about it.

Just got a new touch 9 w/insight. want to make sure I hook it up right, the power wire going to the battery has a yellow wire with it. do I need to run it to accessory + or - switch or can I leave it taped up for now? This is all I have for now, another brand is up front.

One guy captured a school of fish just off the bottom right in front of his boat. Was cool to look at. I have another ETA showing 3/31/2014 David @ shut-up-and-fish.com

I've see a few good pics and a few dogs of pics from the spotlight. Need a real smooth trolling motor and a slow spin.

It seems to me like there is not much information provided on lowrance or videos on youtube about the Elite 5x DSI. Now, I know there are far better products than this one with much newer and better technology available nowadays but being that I am a college student and working a minimum wage job, I got myself that one about a year ago. I have not had time to be out on the water much but the few times that I have used it, I don't really know if understand my readings. I have never had any type of fishfinders before other than an old traditional 2D sonar that came already in my boat, I would use it only to see the depth and determine what the lake bottom was like. Now that I have this somewhat newer Lowrance unit, I really wish to better understand it and know how to use it. I have heard that the information on the far right side is the most recent info, but that does not mean anything to me as I am still confused as to why the screen is even moving from right to left when I am anchored. Like I said, there is hardly any info out there which I have found to be very useful. Maybe some of you can explain to me the basics. I will upload a few pics so that maybe one of you fellas that know these things better than I do can explain to me what it was that appeared on my screen during that particular time.
Thanks

I'll be honest, I haven't used that graph or seen 1 in person but those are fish or should at least be fish. Some could be brush & such but any single line should be fish. The only thing I wonder about is the shallow depths, you'd think fish would have spooked off. I'll post some more fish pics for you. Top right window. Fish... Bottom right window is what fish look like while sitting still. They just leave a straight line on the graph until you or they move. This pic is a school of white bass. Lots of them.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Regarding the pictures I posted, it makes sense to think that there might have been some brush or that the fish might have been spooked. I was idling over and through an area with flooded brush, this was about a year ago on Falcon Lake when the water had risen.
Once again thanks for sharing this.
Anyone else who would like to add something, I would greatly appreciate it…
Thanks

Serg, I think a basic understanding of how radar/sonar works is helpful in understanding what you are looking at on your 7 screen. All your 7 does is shoot a signal out from the transducer and receive back reflections of what that signal hits and reflects back. This is happening thousands of times per second and each signal (shot) only lasts a few microseconds. The 7 then converts what it receives from the transducer to a video image of what it saw. That is why your screen seems to move from right to left. If you understand what I'm trying to say you'll be able to use that info in determining what you are looking at. The shots you posted are good examples but, can be confusing. You need to remember where you are when looking at the screen. Here you were in 5 to 7 feet of water and you stated you were in a lot of brush. Remember how fast the screen is updating and what the returns are. You also said you were sitting still. A fish moving (in any direction) will be hit by the sonar signal and a portion of the signal reflected back to the transducer. If it is doing this many times per second, it might look like a straight line on the screen when in fact it is a fish moving in relation to the transducer. If it were sitting still it would be more of a large dot. I could go on for hours and bore you to death but, hope this helps.

Kicked duck - the manual has the info on that, the yellow is the remote turn-on wire for an accessory that you only want on when the sonar is on.

I have an Elite 7X-HDI, are there some basic setting that I can adjust to get a better picture, and can anyone tell me what they are? Or is this one of those where it depends on Depth and so on? ANY and ALL help would be great as I have never used a graph before. I do have the basic knowledge of how sonar works, but I have played with as many settings I can find and end up just taking back to factory. I mostly fish in less than 20 fow if that helps.
Thanks

This is a screen shot of brushpile from this weekend. The pile appeared to have fish all over it, but I did not get a bite. I lost several lures on this trying to catch a fish. What do you think?
Don't sweat the small stuff. It's all small stuff.

I don't see any fish on it. Could be something but, I don't see it. I would not have stopped. Would definitely marked it for another time.
