when fishing a jig with slip bobber do you just let it sit there and can you add cappie bites to the hook of a jig?

When I am using a slip bobber it is usually to keep the jig at a certain depth, and work the jig as you normally would. And you can use the bites on a jig, I've had days I wouldn't get bit without adding one..

A little tap, tappy or slow swinging motion helps. I like to keep jigs swimming, watching the bobber stop above float so you don't over pull. Haven't caught one using the wind to blow around or just sitting still. They like something sudden where I fish.

sometimes we let them sit very still for quite a while ...like minnow fishin
sometimes we work them with a slight twitch here and there ...kinda like a very slow topwater presentation
crappie nibbles will help I think as well
I think some of it depends on the species of crappie
and some of it has to do with the lake itself maybe as well
....there are a lot of different productive ways to float fish in the spring

Interesting topic. I'm gonna try this technique this spring, but will be using a fixed bobber. Never have had any luck with this technique, but gonna give it an honest try this year. tap, tap.... swinging motion...... I get it! Thanks!

I prefer slip floats. If I'm using a float I'm usually casting. And it is easier to cast with a slip float.

Even if I am fishing a short distance from the boat with a float it is easier to place the line exactly where I want it with a slip float than it is with a fixed float.

I like a fixed float when fishing shallow, three feet or less. I use a slip bobber when fishing deeper. They are easier for me to retrieve...

Has anybody tried the Thill Wobble Bobbers?

I'm think I am going to buy some of them to try when I get back on the water again. I like to fish two rods, one in my hand and one with a float. So it would be nice if the float gave some additional action to the jig.

Not a pro here,but...
My technique is to tap the float just enough that I feel the jigs below are moving an inch or so,nothing fast or wild. Like to get attention but not scare fish off idea. Then pull slowly just to keep tension on the line to feel for the bite. Maybe at times pulling hard enough to make space between the bobber stop and float. Then a 30second pause and back to the tap tap tappy, slowly pulling again. I like to cover water but not be too aggressive.
My friend pops the cork by wagging the rod tip on a constant slow retrieve and has done well in the creeks around here. But I have been out catching him lately. Also he went back to minnow fishing and only jigs when I'm around. Lost faith when a few cold snaps ago sent fish deeper and minnows seemed to work better.

I'm thinkin it means to tap your rod with your index finger and swing motion is moving/pulling the rod to one side or the other. I could be wrong, but that's how I took it.

They look like a winner to me.
I still like Bonehead Tackle's slip floats. #2 with a tandem jig setup for me.#1 will work but the larger float allows the line to go vertical easier without moving location when bouncing a jig.

I only use fixed bobbers when fishing shallow. Most of the time, once you pitch it to the bank or under the dock it disappears immediately if fish are active. Tough bite? Cast out and use a slow retrieve while stopping and popping it every 10 seconds or so. If you see a nibble to the jig you have to let it lay there for a minute and let them load up on it.

Wow, lots of differing opinions and whys. I prefer slip bobbers, and not just any- balsa wood. The balsa wood bobbers come in more shapes and lengths for a very specific presentation or condition. With the slip bobber, I too find my presentation much more accurate on the cast and I can add some control to the fall of the bait by varying the spend at which I draw the line through the bobber. I buy rubber stoppers for weights because with a good balsa bobber you do not need the little plastic bead due to the hole being such a small diameter. Plus you get more rubber weight stoppers for the price of "slip bobber" stoppers. They are easy to install and when I want to remove the bobber to fish the jig naturally, I can leave the rubber stopper on the line and add the stopper later. Using the slip style means you can change depth quickly and that you will leave no pinch marks on the line. Finally, balsa wood cast better than foam, yet offers less resistance to the fish when they bite light. My two cents.
