For those of you who haven't caught any of these guys I wanted to post a picture of one I caught today while fishing the Chain Pickeral capital of the World Lake Stella in Crescent City.FL.

I caught 4 today but last weekend I caught 15. The weekend before last I caught about 14 or so. Sometimes I lose count.

These guys got some mean teeth.

I'd like to catch some of those some time. They're just like teeny, tiny Northern Pike. Cool fish. Caught plenty of Northern Pike up north, but none of the smaller southern variety yet.

55 1/2" 50+ pounds. Caught this fall.
I'm going with this guy this summer up in Canada on Eagle lake.
Here's his site if you want to see some more big fish.

p.s. that guy is 6'3" 240lbs.

Whitebassguy -

Eagle Lake is MY lake!!! Fished that lake for years and years and years for muskie. We'd leave the house (driving straight-thru) the Friday afternoon of Labor Day weekend and get into camp Saturday evening. Fish for two weeks (10-days) and drive back home straight-thru. We stayed in Osbourne and Niven Bay to fish.

There's a little lake just southwest of Niven Bay called Kekekwa Lake. It has nothing but muskie and whitefish and suckers in it. We use to be able to drive an old logging road back there and would fish that lake for one day each trip we made. It was nothing to catch 75 muskies a day per person on that lake. One problem, though - they were stunted. The biggest fish you might catch on it would be 40" but most were running 35-36 inches. It was nothing to have about 20 doubles per boat (2 boats) in a day on that lake. Muskies in that lake were Chatauqua strain that the Ministry were experimenting with.

AGC 4 life,

If you want to catch tons of Pickerals then go to Lake Stella. Not sure where in Florida you live but I can't think of a better lake to catch those guys in then there.

It is in Crescent City just west of Crescent Lake. If you are in N.E. Florida or central Florida let me know. I would be happy to take you there sometime.

Hey guys, as much as I like those huge Pike what exactly does that have to do with Chain Pickerals? Why hijack this post to show off those Northern Pike?

Keith,

They are all of the same scientific specie...Esox. Those bigger fish are not pike but Esox masquinongy or muskie. Pickeral are Esox niger and pike are Esox lucius. Seeing the pickeral brought on our memories of a cousin.

Sorry, I'll back out and let you two converse...

Those little guys make great pickled fish and mock canned salmon !! All those little bones simply desolve. Excellent with some crackers and a cold one! I use to catch them by the hundreds when I was back in WI.

Great to eat !

Zero fish
