I currently have a lowrance gen 2 hds 7 and I am considering installing an lss2 (structures scan). Is this worth putting on a. Hds 7 or would it be a waste of money. would I still be able to see a good image.
For those that have structure scan, does it play a big part when locating fish. Also, is it hard to use and read.

I have it on that set up but it came with the boat I recently bought. I just don't know enough about it yet to know what I'm doing but the structure scan is pretty awesome around lay down trees and things like that. But I can't give you any help making the decision. Sorry

In my opinion, YES.. It's worth having structure scan. The images to find fish are absolutely worth the investment. More importantly, it helps find bait and structure. Not having SS is like owning an HD TV but watching standard definition channels. The top right screen is bass....

Yes! the key is to get it installed properly. If the transducer does not sit level when the boat is in the water, your image is compromised. I have it and use it all the time.

Just look at the differences in these two images. In the sonar, I wouldn't be for sure that these were shad and fish, but with the HDS there is no doubt. I took this shot with my HDS 8 here on the Red River.

If you dont have structure scan on your lowrances you are missing out big time. I have a 10 at the console and a 7 on the bow. The seven doesnt have near the detail due to the screen size but it still can show you a wealth of information you other wise would have no idea was there.

maybe you guys can help me. I have a 5 at the bow and a 7 at console. I have separate transducers but I was messing with the settings and now they are constantly linked together. I have to change the settings to "this unit" every time I go from one unit to the next but before I changed the settings they would always read independently. So now if I select this unit, they are both reading the same thing, I'm hoping this is a simple fix...

Definitely worth the investment.
Slade are you talking about the structure scan or the 2d sonar?

I'm talking about everything. The 2 units are constantly linked together both seeing the same thing, so I have to change the source all the time when going from the bow to the console

I see where it was selected to network sonar, so I unselected. I am assuming each unit will read independently when I get back out now. That was easy.
