I caught another 20 pound Smallmouth Buffalo at Grapevine today. I posted a long detailed story down in the bank fishing section but figured I might as well repost the pictures here too. Rudy happened along right as I landed it, after what was probably a 20 minute battle. ( I love light gear lol ) The fish was thrashing around a lot while I tried to weigh him in the net, but he was right at the upper-19, mid-20 area, the numbers wavering back and forth a little. Here's the pics. He was released alive and well. This pic is a little closer, but cut off his tail lol.

Yes it was TJ. The only place in Grapevine I've ever fished are the various sections of Murrel Park.

My spot of choice at the Vine for big Buff is McPherson Slough on the south shore. 15+ 20 pounders since this time last year. I'll be at it again on Wednesday if anyone is interested in pulling up a piece of shoreline next to me. I just may let you catch one! (:

Sounds like a great spot! That's a lot of 20+'s! ...Though I've no idea where it is, lol.

I went out to fishing trail 4 at Murrel park saturday. I hook into a buffalo about 6lbs and a carp that was about 9-11. My brother caught a carp that had to be at least 18-20lbs.(didnt have a scale) As well as a few small cats. I had a blast. I'll probably go check out the picnic areas next time out (if I can find them) but will def. be going back out. Very nice fish Starless.

I was fishing at lake Brownwood yesterday and caught a carp on a lure. First time that has happened to me. The carp weighed about 20 lbs, fat sucker. It was about the size of the one in the picture above. Do you guys keep these things? I have caught them in rivers that size on trotlines and thrown them back. Anyhow, a few cast later I caught channel cat on the same lure. Both fish had swallowed the lure. Thought that was kind of strange.

TJ - Glad you got into some fish! That carp your brother had was a beast! Awesome.
Basscat - Yeah, it's rare, but it happens, I've seen carp taken on lures before. They're not so much scavengers as oppurtunistic predators, In the wild they eat a lot of mussels and shellfish and crawfish and worms and insects and so on, and will take anything they can catch including minnows or things they think are minnows lol. And like cats, they'll hit just about anything they think smells or tastes good lol, like corn. 20 pounds is a nice carp! How'd he fight? What pound line did you have on? I catch mine on 10 pound and under, lol.
Most of the time we let all our carp and buffalo go. Buffalo make better eating then carp, especially if you know how to prepare them, but 99% of the time we'll let them all go. So far I've only kept one big buffalo and one big carp, and they both died, so I took them home and ate them rather then let the rot.
Big fish- Yeah, it is! Thanks. Just imagine this though, the state record rod-and-reel buffalo is over 80 pounds, and they get over 100! Now that is a big, powerful fish.
