At this point what difference does it make! You sound like Hillary Clinton.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Cameras showed up after he had 25 lbs and went to using the Livingston for the show. Better do what pays I guess!

I find it humorous, and amazing, that the same few people who have repeatedly had something derogatory to say on just about every 'Livingston Lure' post dating back to last year are still trying to put a negative spin on what happended last weekend. Cameras showed up after he had 25 lbs and went to using the Livingston for the show. Better do what pays I guess! If I'm understanding your comment, you're saying that you think he started fishing a sponsors bait during the absolute most crucial point of the Classic...just for show? He didn't start throwing the Livingston prototype because he thought it might help his chances of culling up to the eventual winning weight...no, he did it just because Livingston is one of his sponsors? He probably thought...'I'm not going to keep fighting for the biggest win of my career and all the amazing things it will do for my future in fishing...Nah...I'm gonna finish the day plugging my sponsors.' That is genius!

I think the only thing that is questionable in my mind is how much confidence did Randy have in his Livingston lures arsenal vs. the red DT-6. Since the DT-6 is a good performer in cold water, maybe he leaned towards using it vs. his belief that he didn't have one better in his boat for the situation, who knows, we're all speculating, but I believe Randy to be an honest man and I don't think he intentionally used it just for the sake of catching some fish for his sponsor. Heck, he may have worn them out on the DT-6 and he needed to change up, and they just happened to eat up the proto, and it very well could be a good bait, I'm staying out of that controversy..

That's a good and valid point. I'm sure he couldn't have had much if any confidence in it when he tied it on. Velvick had just given it to him during practice. But when he casted it, he said he liked the action that he felt in his rod tip and obviously thought enough of it to keep throwing it long enough to find out that the fish liked it to. I think some people just don't want to believe, or let anyone else believe for that matter, that Livingston may be on to something good. Time will tell I suppose when the new line of baits becomes available. Until then, you're right...just a lot of speculation.

You always know, or expect, some new bait or some new technique to show itself. The success of ICast certainly is proof enough that most of us care a lot about new tackle and new trends.

Hey all I'm saying is he was playing the game like he needed to. He knows who pays the bills.
He knows those fish were fired up and would have eaten a dirty sock with trebles on it.

ever fished a new bait in a tournament that you have zero confidence in? I wont ever. I bet he used his confidence bait until they quit biting it, then he picked up the livingston and found out it was working and his confidence grew in using it. then he stuck with it and culled up with it. just my pissant theory and .02

Just watched a video where he talked about his hydrowave and how he thought it played a big part in helping him win as well. So was it the hydrowave? Was it the Livingston? Was it the Rapala? It's all speculation. The guys that say the Livingston was the end all be all are wrong and the guys that think a dirty sock would have caught fish are essentially wrong as well. Alot of factors came into play and I mostly believe that he was just in the right place at the right time.

What about the dancing eel? The thing has such great movement. I am surprised it didn't work as well as it looked. So, are we talking about the Livingston ones that make noise and/or have lights? I think they have plain lures too. I bought some a few years back at the TTBC from some guy with a tent. Never caught anything on them.
