Angie josh, having the lures at or just above the fish is best. Use your electronics to determine what depth the fish are. Slight lift and drop in that area works. I agree with Gene if you find the fish most any lure will work. I think color makes a difference sometimes, the size of the lure sometimes. I try different things until I find what works for that situation. I if you are lucky you can find TFFrs who already have it dialed in and will tell you what to use.

All great advice. Best thing to do is KEEP TRYING DIFFERENT THINGS until you find one that works for you in that particular spot that day. Does not mean it will work there tomorrow.

IF they are on top of the water feeding then I prefer a 5/8 ounce Rat-L-Trap in blue over silver with a red at the gills attached with 30# PowerPro. IF they are lower, I use the best lure in the world for whites and hybrids - TNT slab's 180 in 2 ounce. I prefer the silver holographic, red & gold holographic or the chartreuse & white. Attach it to 30# PowerPro with a Uni-knot and you are ready to go after white bass, hybrids, and cats Whether you are jigging vertically or swimming it back deep or bouncing it off the bottom, it catches thousands of fish a year in my boat. Clients just can't believe that 2 baits can catch so many fish!!
