Man, I have been to Matagorda hundreds of times and only saw a couple stingrays but that was a while ago. I grew up in that area. On St John (USVI) the locals say you have to try to step on a ray because they will always get out of the way. Before the last hurricane there used to be hundreds of rays that hung out at Honeymoon Beach on St John. They would surround anyone entering the water due to people feeding them. I don't recall anyone getting stung ever. So, I guess you stepped on it? I just want to understand how you go stung so I can make sure I avoid that situation!! Glad you are doing better.

The first time I fished East Matty I launched at Rawlings Cut and paddled east along the south shore. I saw several dozen stingrays that day, and actually hit a fairly large one with my paddle accidentally.

God bless you didn't end up like Steve Irwin. Did you have any trouble getting back to shore?
It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

It has been so known for years. Just what is the proper name for that bayou??

Just what is the proper name for that bayou?? it was called Parkers Cut but it was filled in by the army corp of engineers in all of their mighty wisdom in about 1985 or 86 so thats where youre fishing

Parker's Cut was filled in in 92. It runs to West Bay. I'm referring to the cut over to East Bay, just south of Rawlings Bait Camp. It's on the east side of 2031,just at the end of the houses.
