Spots will dry up. It still pays off to learn to find fish.

I read and post to learn how to fish better, not where a spot is. I don't see a problem asking about techniques, general information on what is successful, and maybe even what type of cover/structure to look for on a given lake or group of lakes. I can see the frustration folks have with the posts from people obviously pre-fishing for a tournament by asking for specific information on here, but the reality is, you can usually see through the guys that post those and just not respond. When people act honest and give bogus information - sure it might be fun to jack with the tournament guy a little, but newbies like me might believe it and waste time trying to replicate the situation on their local lake. Its better to just not respond, or respond with something funny that is obviously not true. Just my 0.02

Their is no such thing as your fish. Most of the secret spots u have some other dude is saying the same thing..... yes people to get on here and want spots and patterns and baits and color and what line and rod reel set up you use. But I have tried to stop worrying about what people do with their right to speak freely how ever they please to..... whining about it is pointless... Not saying i havent in my 4000 post but gonna hold my tongue because it just makes u look dumb. I have meet allot of great guys on here that i never thought i would like based on their TFF post so i take every post with a grain of salt. I love the TFF but it has gotten a little muddied up with threads much like this one.

Going on a FISHING FORUM and bashing people for asking for info is an interesting post. Especially by people with 2 and 3 thousand posts each. Trying to think how I could post 3000 times and never "share fishing information". Freedom to ask-freedom to answer. :-)

The reason you don't see the real sticks and pros on here is because of the constant negativity. It's a no win situation for them because no matter what they say, someone is gonna disagree, try to one-up them, etc. They ALL read fishing forums. They just don't post much if at all.

I'm all about getting insight but asking for someone's spot is just crazy, but I'm seeing it more and more.

I spent some time with a pro and was amazed at the amount of waypoints that pros share with one another leading up to tournaments. The guy had hundreds if not thousands of waypoints that, I'd wager, he didn't find himself. It was pretty discouraging for a guy like me, who aspires to tournament fish, to know that not only am I "out talented" by the competition but I also don't have a network of friends that'll hand over their waypoints.

I have no problem going tit for tat with someone on spots. You can bet those pros give as many waypoints as they receive. That's more of a trade. My original post was addressing people that just pop up on here or at the local gas station and blatantly ask where you caught 'em, what on, what depth, etc. I'll probably never see that guy again. Although, I have learned to entertain myself with those type of people. I've sometimes wanted to go out that next day to see if I could find that guy following the "pattern" I told him at the gas station! LOL

Networking has been around for years and years, it's just more transparent and open now that the internet is such a huge part of our daily lives.

I think most people that have a little ability can take general info, like depth, colors and time of day of the best bite and develop a pattern or patterns that work for themselves on a given body of water.

But there are those that either just aren't as experienced or may even want the easy way by asking for spots.

As stated earlier I would rather someone ask than follow someone to see where they are catching fish.

Lot of people ask for specifics. Some do it on the thread and some do it in a PM. So what. My dad always said if you want something to ask for it. You will either get it or you won't. If someone gives me some type of specific info whether it was solicited or not it is helpful. If I want I can scrutinize the info to see how it compares to current conditions or to my own evaluation and often times I will learn something. I always appreciate the help and will provide specifics when asked. Most times I can't catch other people's fish and I always remember that.

Yes I know. There are several who post on occasion but very few and very seldom.

My thoughts / opinion getting information off the Internet is part of your homework when visiting a lake. You have to decipher what information is possibly bogus, and see if you can put together a pattern of information that may assist you in catching a few fish and building your own pattern to work with.

I don't see anything wrong with getting on here and asking for information? Good questions may be what depth are the fish relating too? Is there a particular color that just seems to be working for you? Are the fish in the mouth, middle, or back of creeks? If you are asking for specific spots well you may get false information.

Boat chasing, going out of your way to come within 50 yards of another boat tapping way points, staking out with binoculars, telling everyone where the local sticks are fishing in my eyes is wrong. Maybe this is a little of what the original post is about...
