I'm with Sean, I wouldn't kill that fish for a million dollars. Pics and replica is perfect.

Yes, you would! That's 6 zeroes and 2 commas!

I was working for a local cable news station when Mr. St Clair caught the current record, and was fortunate enough to go out to the fisheries dept. (it was in Tyler back then) for press day. It was about 3-4 days after he caught it and he had already had a few offers from Outdoor Life and other outdoor publications, for interviews. It wasn't a lot of money and I think he handled things well. The fish was donated and the last time I saw her, she was on exhibit at the Dallas aquarium (on the state fair grounds) He wasn't a tournament fisherman so had no interest in wearing companies' logos but, if he had been, it would have been a great opportunity to secure a few sponsors.
I think he showed a lot of class by not mounting the fish.

I would call Johnny Morris over at Bass Pro Shop's and ask him what I caught her on, and what rod & reel was I using at the time...then I would place her in the local B.P.S. aquarium for a small rental fee, because folks would drive a long way to see such a fish...basically "show me the money !!!"...a fish that big would have left a bunch of genetics behind and would prolly give up the ghost in a few years anyway...sorry but I need to fund my addiction some how...LOL

It has been said a state record can be worth a lot of money and a world record possibly a million. If I was to weigh, photograph and release it how would I ever know? I'm a conservative person that practices catch & release but I'm keeping this one. In the end it's just "one fish kept". I could still sleep at night...in my new house! Yes, it is what it is! :-)

This. Catching a 10+ is one thing.
Catching a SAL is another.
Catching a state record is in a league of its own!

Filet it, feed my Sunday school class a great fish fry, and go out and catch another. No, wait, I would hang it on the wall and worship it. After some serious reconsideration, I would cash it in for all its worth and buy more tackle. It would be a tough decision. I would really love to video the filet process of a fish that large, after all it is just a fish.

I would get it certified for the record and do what I could to make as much coin off the catch as I can. I would need it to be worth $2-3 million to probably break even laugh

That is of course after I posted it on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, MySpace, and whatever else I could!

LOL

I would not even get to worry about all that. Once I saw the fish, I would pass out fall in the water and drown. LOL.
