Ok, your reply sounds logical but man, somewhere close to $300 more in price! I'm still new at this but sounds like they are pricing themselves (Diawa) right out of the recreational fisherman market. $550 some dollars is a lot of money and you still have to buy a good quality rod to go with it! Sure makes this an expensive hobby..... like you, just my opinion The Steez is quiet, smooth, lightweight, casts like a dream, and simply preforms flawlessly. They all feel pretty good at the reel counter at Bass Pro. The proof in the pudding is how they feel after a year or two of hard use.
Haven't used the new Tatula R. Looks like a great reel. Shimano used to own the highend reel market with the Calcutta and then the Chronarch. IMO, the old gold Chronarch SF is still a great reel.
It's kind of like someone asking why the new Audi S8 is so much more expensive than a Chevy Impala. Both are good cars that will get you down the road. The guy in his new Impala must think the same thing. Why does that Audi cost so much more?? You only realize the difference after you get in the thing and drive it..

That's the great thing about this sport Lee. You can do it on any level you wish and be successful.
I recall when Barry St. Clair landed the current state record bass of 18.18 pounds. He was quoted in the Dallas newspaper saying, "I know some guys spend hundreds of dollars on a rod & reel. I probably have $14.00 in mine."
Whatever floats your boat. So to speak...

Lee, I found a BNIB Steez for $430 to the door. You don't have to pay that $599 MSRP. Granted, $430 is a lot of money but I wanted to buy just 1 of arguably the best reels out there by which all others are measured. I'm going to pair it with the best rod I can afford and have 1 badass set up for the technique I use most. Then I'll decide if it's worth it to buy more when money permits. If you dont have at least 1 of the best money can buy how do you know it's not worth it?

I mean, you don't really need an 04 stratos either. Do you? But I'll be sure to let the interwebs know when I catch a big one because I like to see myself on the internet.

I've had several "dream reels" over the years
Favorites as I grew up 1st 80's model zebco 33 2nd Abu Garcia 5500HCL 3rd Curado 100d 4th Chronarch 50MG Current Lews Tournament Pros for casting and BB1s for cranking
If I had money, Id probably just buy more Lews, not a thing wrong with them
