It's a smallie X Guad. TPWD made the mistake of introducing smallmouths into the Gaudalupe River and Hill Country waterways years ago. The smallies crossed with a lot of the Guads and pushed them out of a lot of their home waters. There are few places where you can actually catch a pure Guad any more.

There are few places where you can actually catch a pure Guad any more. you can catch them in the llano, upper guad, lots of places. I'd much rather catch hard fighting smallmouth in the rivers than dinky Guadalupe bass that's not a hybrid either, that's a legitimate spotted bass. Broken lines give it away

I caught this the other day at Wheeler Branch in Glen Rose by Squaw Creek. Usually don't take pictures of little fish but usually do not catch a Smallie in Glen Rose!
