I think most people use the Paloma's knot. I've always used the improved clinch on everything and don't have a reason to change. I think all knots must be "neat" for best performance.

Put a pair of reading glasses in your tackle box. They are real handy.

I use 12 lb mono on everything and used only a palomar knot but recently started using floro on my soft plastics/jigs because of it's sensitivity. I've had problems breaking off on my hook sets so I'm wondering if it's the Palomar knot, guess I'll try the improved clinch to see if that remedy's the issue.

If you are having problems breaking off on hook sets with floro there is one thing I've noticed. Make sure you don't twist the line at all between your fingers. When you double your line and thread it thru the eye. Pay close attention when you tie the over hand knot to make sure the two pieces running thru the eye are not crossed. They should be setting side by side. If they are crossed over each other in an x pattern the point taking the impact of a hook set is line on line not two pieces of line on hook. They end up cutting thru each other floro is great stuff even though it sinks I use it on topwater baits as well. I even let the line sink a bit at times to get a bit of sub surface walk the dog action. Hope this helps.

Really like the palomar, easy to tie. At the very end of tying the knot, I've noticed that you have to take some care to make sure that after the loop passes over the hook, you want the loop to cinch down over the initial over hand knot (not above it). The difference is subtle, but if the loop cinches above the initial overhand, the knot isn't as strong. Likely from the cinching into the main line instead of around the initial overhand. It also helps to cinch by pulling the tag end (not the main line). This way, the abrasion from cinching is transmitted to the tag end and not the main line. Tying Palomar with loop cinching above the overhand--not what you want to do Correctly tied with loop cinching around the overhand

I like the palomar but I find it inconsistent with floro. I use double improved clinch on terminal tackle and double sandiego jam on everything else.

Palomar +100. you can even tie it with frozen fingers. Make sure you wet it when you cinch it up.

I like the Palomar because it performs at over 100% of the line strength (according to most tests) but mainly because of how easy it is. However... Like Fouz said, there are knots that are better if you have time and fingers willing to cooperate. If you are a fan of the Norman Speed Clips then tying a braid knot makes more sense because it is stronger and you won't have to retie it very often.

Does anybody use the San Diego Jam knot on flouro? Mark Pack says it's the best knot flouro The San Diego Jam is an easy knot to tie as well but since it only passes through the hook eye once, it can't quite hold as well as the Palomar, Fish-n-Fool or braid knot. Something to keep in mind is that all of these lab bench studies are nice but are no substitute for what works best in your hands on the water. If I repeatedly had knot problems, I'd tie another knot.

Been out with multiple guides who put their living on the knot they tie, most tie the palomar. Wet it, pull it slowly, don't let the lines cross.
