Alright so I have finally come to the conclusion that my outdated pawn shop spin casting rods are just not going to cut it for cat fishing. I am looking for suggestions for upgrades. need suggestions on rods, reels and line. I would like to keep the budget under 150 a set up. I definitely want a real that has a clicker on it. These will be used almost exclusively for bank fishing lakes mostly targeting blue cats.
Thanks

Abu 6500c3 with pro angler 7.5' or 10' rod, spool it with 25lb or 30lb offshore angler line and you are set right on your budget, that's a good setup!

You don't say whether you prefer a baitcast or spinning reel setup.Personally I like the spinning reel because I can cast it further, this is essential. So I would recommend a Penn Fierce 6000 reel spooled with Power Pro 65# braid and a 10' ProAngler rod.You can get all that for about a $120 if you shop around.Combine that with a 6oz. weight,a 9/0 ProAngler circle hook with a 50# mono leader in either a 3-way or Santee-Cooper rig,add fresh cut shad and you'll be in business.

Danny Kings 7 ft rod will do the trick for $40 a rod. I would put an Abu Garcias with a bait clicker on it and line it with Sufix 25 lb test. Be under your budget for sure.

I don't get the need for bait clickers unless you're fishing for flatheads at night. If you're going after big Blues just tighten the drag down and they'll hook themselves. You'll know it when it happens cause your rod will look like this.LOL

Abu Garcia 6500C3, 7.5' or maybe the 10' pro angler rod, Berkley big game mono couldnt have said it better myself. 20# is what i prefer with a 60# leader!!

Thanks everyone! I ended up ordering a few pro angler 10ft rods and a couple of Shimano Cardiff 400A. I tried one of my buddies shimano's and just fell in love with the way it casted.
