I really love the Shimano Metaniums I have now. Probable try to get some more of them. I've never had the money to buy a Core. Would probably buy some of them too. And then a Steez to make a comparsion.

I only have 1 MGX but love that reel so I would probably stock my boat with them.

Diawa Steez hands down. Paired with a Dobyn's Champion Extreme, best set up out there IMO.

Well money is always somewhat of a concern, but I will say this, I have bought a lot of reels over the last year or so. Nothing over $200, the most expensive one is a Shimano Chronarch, but I have also bough a few Revo SX's, Lews Speed tournament reels, I have a few of the older Curados - and I bought one Daiwa Tatula because I had a gift card and I wanted a 6:4:1 gear ratio so I took a flyer on once of these because all the other brands where 7:1's -

I will tell you this, I haven't had that Daiwa very long, and haven't used it enough to know how it will hold up, but it is my favorite reel. I thought it was a little big when I got it, and it is compared to the others, but not enough to really notice, and it holds more line and casts farther and smoother than any reel I own. I love it, and will buy more as I need reels.

I know everyone talks about Lews, and I have 2 of them, and they are descent reels but nothing special to me personally.

I rank the reels I own:

1. Daiwai Tatula
2. Revo SX's
3. Shimano Chronarch
4. Shimano Curado's - older ones
5. Lews Reels

I know this isn't exactly what you where asking, but thats my 2 cents. I don't know if I could justify spending $300 or 400 on a reel, because I could get 2 or 3 good ones for that price. Good enough for me anyway.

The 2 Lews reels I have are:

Lews Tournament Pro Speed Spool - They are $199 - I bought the last 5:4:1 that tackle warehouse had on sale at the time for $139 I think

The other one is the $129 model, Lews Tournament MG Speed Spool.

Like I say they are good reels, but I do like my Revo's, Chronarch and Daiwa better.

I think out of the box, the Chronarch took me longer to get it set up the way I like my reels, and once I got it set right it has been a great reel, but the Daiwa and the Revo's have been easier for me to adjust and I like them better.

One thing I have learned over the last year of buying new equipment and trying to upgrade my stuff. I would rather spend $150 or 200 on a reel and be able to spend the same or a little more on a rod. I think once you get used to using good rods, it is hard to go back to one that is not as sensitive, strong, etc.. Its a different subject, but I think it is important because you start adding up the cost of a good reel and a good rod, then you get 3 or 4, your going to spend some money.

The Late Great Clarence Stewart designed reels and helped put shimano in the marketplace said the cheap little H2o mettle was the best buy out there and he used them a lot said fish em till they wear out then get a new one. Ive lot differant brands and like some of all but lots to be said for Clarence,s views.
