I've always been a fan of Ugly Stick rods. I have quite a few with CatMaxx spin reels. Catches anything under 50lbs without a hiccup. I like Shimano Saltwater rods for bigger fish, and some casting reels with heavy drag. Since Catfishing is more of a waiting game, I also have a couple Ultra Lights to cast off the side while watching my lines to keep me from falling asleep during all-nighters.

I have a couple of Ugly Stick/CatMaxx combos myself. I've never had an issue, but I've never hooked a biggun yet either. I will do a side by side comparison w/ the Abu's and PA's in a couple weeks. I will let you know what I think.
