I have been looking for a afforable fishing kayak that will fit me im 6'4 210 lbs i bank fish maybe 3 times a week depending on weather and i cant afford a boat and want to get out on the water id love a good kayak, i know everyone says try before you buy but i dont know a single person or way to try any, any opinions on what would be a good start, i cant afford most of the big nice yaks like hobie pro anglers or anything over 1500$. i live in waco i walways see people going up the brazos and all over lake waco with kayaks got me wanting to join the fun and get off the banks.

There was a brand new Ride 135 for sale for $775 in the Yak Classified section. And you can stand from it.
I'm 6'3" & 175, and my 12' ocean kayak scrambler is plenty big. I fished out of a 10' for a couple years prior.
Good Luck and welcome

I'm 5'10" and 200 lbs. when I was shopping I really didn't find much difference in the stability in the popular kayaks around $1400. I have the native slayer 14.5 and chose it for the deck space and the awesome seat. I don't have any problems standing and casting or setting the hook. So in reality go the shops and sit in them and see if your fishing style fits the deck layout. ![](http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg572/nutrarat/A82380AF-AD7B-443A-BECA-3D7BA2F33FEF-2454-0000012E6C8F5727.jpg)

Get you a pescador if you want inexpensive I'm 6'6 around 220 and it was nice. If you wanna spend a little more Jackson Cuda. I'm comfortable in both if your in my area let me know let you paddle em around. Whatever you get have fun.

I'm 6'4" 200 and I have a pescador 12 that has been really good to me. Now that I'm really hooked into kayak fishing I think I'm going to invest in a ride 135.

You can rent kayaks from the Outdoor Waco store on S. University Parks drive. I actually almost purchased a Malibu Pro Explorer from them when they were changing to all Jackson kayaks. Wouldn't hurt to ask them if they have any used ones for sale--keep in mind, as rentals, they will be well used.

Welcome to the forum Marcus.
$1500 is a good budget to get you into a quality kayak - there are many that will easily accommodate your size - but don't forget your budget needs to allow for a good paddle, PFD and a way to haul it at a minimum. I advise taking a trip into Dallas and checking out the offerings at Mariner Sails, Mountain Sports, Pro Angler Tackle, Fun-n-sun........nothing like running your hands over the yak in person. All of these dealers support and frequent this forum so I know they will be more than glad to take the time and effort to help you. Likewise, I am sure Austin has some good dealers. Once you narrow down which ones appeal to you, see if you can schedule a demo of those. A couple of Saturdays looking and testing can go a long ways towards a better decision.
You might hit up Chris Payne on this site for his kayak selector....a good tool that might help you in the right direction.

if i were you and want to try out as many kayaks as possible. i would go to the texoma GTG/tournament coming up. there will be quite a few of us there and kayaks. I can't speak for everyone, but you are welcome to try out my kayak.
i want to let you know in advance... i know you got a tight budget and all, but its basicaly a hobie pro angler GTG. ofcourse you will see a ride 135 or a outback, maybe even a jackson, but majority of the folks i know who fish texoma has a pro angler.

Anytime you want to come down to Lake Belton you can try out a Malibu Stealth12 or Wilderness Systems Commander 140. Even better we could head down to Austin and fish them on Lady Bird. That lake will spoil you in the winter.

My best friend is 6'7" weighing in between 350 and 400 depending on if it's a holiday. LoL. He has no problem paddling with me all day in a couple different yaks. He usually looks at the width more so than length. If I remember correct his is around 32" wide where my yak is around 28" ( I could be slightly off). He has never had a problem with stability, we been in rivers, lakes, bays and surf side. At your height and weight most yaks should be fine. I'm 6'2", 190lbs and I have a Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 for about 5 years now and it's a great yak.
