A 7" blue fleck power worm. Works all year long especially during the spawn.

Okay I will throw this out there. Some may think it's stupid but here goes. One of my weapons in the spawn is the original Johnson Beetle spin in the largest size, white with red dot. Sorry, I don't know what the color is called, I don't even think they have a color name for it on the box. Anyway I don't put the spinner on just use the jig part. It's hard to fish it around pads because the hook is exposed. When fishing it the red dot faces up. I think the solid white with the one spot of red is key. It's real easy to see, and it does not take a rocket scientist to cathch the bedding fish with it. Never seen anyone else do this. Best part about them is that they are like 80 cents at Walmart. You can by a ton and not break the bank. I wish I had a dollar for every beetle spin bass I ever caught. My preference is a spent butt off of a cool cigarette, this one can be Googled as well. Bedded fish are mean, ornery, pizzed off selfish critters that aren't hitting baits on a bed because they are interested in eating. They are protecting their nests from other predators, and the best bait you can use is the one you can see best for the conditions your faced with. For me this tends to be a finesse jig or a modified craw with white being the dominate color and either black, plum or blue being the secondary. I have also come to like the Nest Raiders as well, they are kind of bulky but displace a lot of water for a slow fall and they pitch/flip well too.

White speed craw tx. rigged White small tube or white spinner bait trailer on a drop shot. Bublegum/sherbert senko weightless. Super fluke weightless (color depends on whatever one they react to the most) Watermelon/gold tube. Trick worm or 4 inch senko wacky rigged.
I quit using 6 inch lizards because so much of the time they can pick it up by the tail and move it off the bed without ever having the hook in their mouth. I use lizards on a Carolina rig on pre-spawn and post spawn fish.

On those hard to catch bass, try different lures, sizes, colors until you see the fish react in an alarmed or excited way. Sometimes it takes something different, like a Castaic bluegill(with the lip cut off) or a small 5' lizard

For you drop shooters...do you upsize your tackle any if you fishing beds that are not in open water? Let the fish tell u, use something u can see,i.ve used 2"to 10" on a drop shot with varied sucees. 2 and 10 works on heavily pressured fish the haven't seen them in that size.

Pegged 1/4 oz. tungsten wt. with a stout hook I use an owner with I white crappie tube jig solid tube not hollow the white is easy to see. With that tungsten wt. it falls supper fast into the bed and they can't take it. I use a heave owner worm hook for this it is all hook and weight looks really funny but works I am sure the cig butt would do the same thing.

Texas rigged anything I believe the same exact thing. I have caught bedding bass with small spinnerbaits, stick baits, and all types of soft plastics. You could probably rig a piece of stick and work it in there to irritate her and she will strike at it. LOL Like people have said, FOOD is not on their mind.

I completely agree...but if the stick does not work try a chartreuse LFT Ring Fry weightless with a 4/0 EWG hook. :-)

That sweet spot is often times their nose.
