If you are a Veteran or if you are on Active Duty you can show your ID at Bass Pro and Cabelas and get a 10% discount on any purchase. For some reason Academy Sports has chosen not to work with Veterans or people on Active Duty. When you get your 10% discount and Bass Pro or Cabelas points it adds up to a substantial savings. I just bought a new I Pilot trolling motor from Cabelas and with my military discount and reward points I saved about $250. Lowes and HomeDepot also give a 10% discount. I called Academy Sports corporate office but they refused to talk to me about their decision to not support the Armed Service personel. Seems like they must not need our business??

I also contacted Academy about their decision not to give a military discount. They did e-mail me back stating " we feel we already have low prices". So I do not shop at academy very often now. Their loss.

I appreciate the discount, and use it on mainly large purchases, and I've had the clerks even ask me at Lowe's because the clerk saw my card when I opened my wallet to take my debit card out.
I don't hold it against Academy for not honoring the discount as like they mentioned, they usually already have lower prices than Bass Pro or Cabelas.

I have been outfitting my new 24ft bay boat and find that Academy, BassPro and Cabelas are usually very close in price. Certainly not worth giving up a 10% discount and club points at BassPro and Cabelas

Bass Pro= 22+ miles away across town in heavy traffic. One way!
Academy= Eight minutes away and about six red lights. One way!

Hmm... I wonder if Bass Pro will give the 10% Veteran's discount on a boat?

I ask for the Military Discount everywhere I go. You would be surprised how many places offer it. Semper Paratus.

My wife is a concuss shopper. She always ask if the place we are at gives a military discount. Some do some don't. I know Academy doesn't, but we still shop there.

I love TACO's with or without a discount. I will visit and shop in any place that sales fishing and hunting stuff whether or not they give a military discount or not. I am not going to get bent out of shape over not getting a military discount. If the tacos are all gone I might get a tad upset laugh

I appreciate those who offer a discount, but do not feel any company is obligated to do so.

I was in line at Academy just before Christmas and the lines were long as one would expect.
The guy in front of me was checking out and asked about the Veterans discount and the poor little girl checking him out caught the full force of his rant. It was embarrassing to me, and I'm pretty sure several other folks nearby probably felt the same.
When I served I would have given anything to be back home and able to walk into an Academy and spend whatever money I had to buy fishing or hunting gear, and the last thing on my mind was getting a measly 10% discount.
That's just my feelings on the matter, and I'm done!
