In the 80's My dad would let me take the boat out. I was 17 when I loaded up the boat behind my 1985 Grand AM, It was a 18F Ranger bass boat at the time. We would go out to PKL and go to hells gate. Climb the top and jump off. One day we did that, and swam to the cliff edge and climb up again... but the one day that come to mind... there was a rattle snake trapped in the cliff rocks... scared the [censored] out of me....

Yep myself and four others jumped off a long time ago. The last guy insisted on wearing an orange cheap pfd. I begged him not to jump with the pfd on. He insisted. You could here him screaming under water. All the floatation came out off the pfd and floated up. He returned to the top sore and wearing an orange rag.

Old Fort? When I was in boy scout camp around 1949 we rowed across to the west side and North of Hells Gate, we hiked about 1 1/2 miles in and saw the remains of and old fort. It was a one room affair with no roof and openings to shoot out. Does anyone know anything about this fort? A fellow camper also jumped off the cliff there once. He was bruised on his side where he went in not quite straight.
