As a non-boater I took care of the problem of having to wait for my buddy to get up, get ready, get the boat ready,,,, I bought my own boat. I hate "late" but it happens, but if it happens on a regular basis then forget it.

Do you ever try to make plans with them ever again or cut the line?...(LOL)

If you really like fishing with them, tell them if they are late or cancel one more time you're going to stop asking. They may have a good reason, or they might just be a flake.

If you don't really like fishing with them, just stop asking. smile

I very rarely ever fish real early in the mornings anymore, but when there is a trip planned, I expect my partner to be on time. 5-10min ain't no big deal, but later than that, it will be a problem. I won't address it, I just won't invite them again for early morning departures. Too many other mooches out there lookin for a free ride that can make it on time!

I decided a while back I would be as particular about my fishing buddy's as I was about the guys I chose to drink or play poker with, it's a whole lot less aggravating that way. Fortunately the guys I fish with on a regular basis take the experience as seriously as I do and value there time just as much as I do so there are rarely any problems. Coordinating trips with partners helps to make sure everything falls into place and generally we are all getting things together well in advance of departures. But as the old saying goes "chit happens" and when It does you just have to roll with the flow and overcome it in order to maximize your time on the water.

When someone asks me if I want to go fishing with them in their boat I make sure that no matter what time or where we are supposed to meet I am sitting there waiting for them when he gets there. Being early is a habit. So is being late. The man with the boat has all of the responsibility and work starting at least the night before in getting things ready with the boat. I don't want him to have to wait on my sorry arse to get there. When its my boat the same is really appreciated.

For me it would depend on what the excuse was as to why he was late. If it was something he could not control, then ok but I still wouldn't he happy about it.

My brother in law kept bugging me to take him to Fork. I finally agreed and we set up a trip. He got to my house 45 minutes late. He stopped at the store on the way to my house to get stuff to eat. I told him this was a fishing trip not a picnic.

Another one wasn't ready when I came over to his house to pick him up. He came out in pajamas and a cup of coffee. I had to tell him to go change and load your stuff.

Kinda like the bad guide trip thread, I don't ever expect much from anyone so I don't get very disappointed. I also don't associate with too many people because, as a general rule, I don't enjoy their company all that much anyway. That's why I stick with a select few.

It kills me that grown men have to ask permission to go fishing from their spouse. Don't get me wrong, I believe in checking to be sure there is no conflict with their plans, but I don't agree with the whole "I have to ask for a kitchen pass" thing.

All I have to say is grow a pair.

I guess this is why I spend most of my weekends alone.

I guess I'm not very understanding and I'm insensitive.

My friends are my friends and are always invited again if they stand me up. But my friends wouldn't stand me up without feeling terrible about it or having a GREAT reason.
