I took my son youngest son Colton(8 years old) crappie fishing earlier this month on January 3rd. It was extra cold that morning as we were having our line guides freeze on our rod tips. Colton was a trooper though he really wanted to catch some crappie. It's funny, if you ask him to go catch hybrid stripers and he will say "No" ask him to catch white bass and he will say "NO" ask him to go catch crappie and it's always "yes". He loves to jig fish and has actually gotten pretty good at it. On that cold winter morning about 20 minutes into the trip I heard him say "Dad, I think I got one" he was right. As he pulled up the fish I asked him if he needed a net and he said "yea". I wasnt convinced till I saw the fish but he was right. It was a beautiful white crappie. He was using a short 5 1/2 ft rod with 6lb Mr Crappie line with a blue & white Mr. Blue Lighning on it. After we got home a buddy of mine that was on the trip with us called me and asked if that fish could be the Jr Angler record. I didn't know so I got online and checked. As it would turn out the old record was 1.9lbs on Jr & lake record. I knew that this fish should be right about 2 lbs even so off to Athens we went. The fish weighed 2.02 lbs & was 15.5 inches long which gave him the current record for Mill Creek in the Water Body record & Jr Angler. He also got a big fish award. Anyway he was excited and now has his name in the books. Its a proud Dad moment.

Like father, like son. The only kid his age that I've ever met who cleans fish, lands monster blue cats, climbs trees, and can work a jig without anyone's help. Congrats Chuck and Colton, that is a very awesome moment for both of you.

It just don't get any better! Memory there for a lifetime. Congratulation to the young man on catching a super fish. Side Note: That fish would make a super Replication!
