has anyone been out to any of the LBJ grasslands lakes? I see on google maps they look DRY, but not sure how dated that view is. Not an LBJ lake but fished a private lake near clear lake two weeks ago. It was about 4 feet low. And we were told it had come up from some recent rains. Post this in the yak section I think Ive seen chatter up there about the LBJ lakes. Dans pond is dry, as in gone I think i heard.

Clear Lake and Black Creek are very low. Some of the small ponds are bone dry. The larger lakes are still fishable.

How should I view low lakes? Less water for the fish to hide in, or less active fish? How does everyone else view small lakes with low water? Worth hitting up or asking for a skunking? They are beautiful lakes my wife loves to join me on, but I showed her the satellite pictures on google maps and she was sad. They look awful.

When I sold my Hydrasport in 1983, I bought an 8' Bass Buster, a cheap Humminbird flasher, and a 30# thrust Minn-Kota trolling motor. Having lost my mobility, I had to make up for it by learning well the waters I did fish. As things ended up, it didn't matter whether I spent most of the day in one cove on Fork, Elephant Butte or Ray Roberts, or whether I fished a small pond. I went places the "big boys" couldn't get to, and beat them at their own game more than a few times. My PB is still an 8-12 caught bank fishing at an Arkansas pond with a 1/4 oz. buzz bait, but I've caught a lot of 7s and 8s from that little PBS mini-boat. AFter selling the boat and going 13 years without fishing at all, I have a Bass Hunter Bass Baby now, and still manage to catch a lot of nice bass from it. It sits lower in the water than the Buster, and I don't like that - but it's also 6" wider above the waterline, and the extra room is nice. I have it false-floored and carpeted, and it sits on an Aluma 6X4 aluminum trailer. The 2' overhang in the back is because of the built-in wheels. I installed a couple of LED uprights on the trailer so I can see it to back down ramps. Once again, I'm using a 30# Minn-Kota (Endura) with a foot switch and a Humminbird - this time, a Piranhamax 195. I also installed some eye bolts up front for trailering and a couple in the floor for attaching stump grips. I'm carrying two XPS batteries from BPS, but haven't needed to switch batteries yet, even fishing all day in the wind. So far, I've only used it at Ray Roberts and Wheeler Branch, but I can see some Fork trips coming up later this summer. Right now, I'm recovering from a heart attack.

I used a stencile and a black magic marker on mine.
You could just use black paint if you wanted to.
You ever see any gators?
Haha. Here's one from a couple of years ago in the Santa Fe River. I guessed him close to 8', but I used the zoom to take picture. I know they are doscile but I'm still not pushing my luck in a 10 foot boat that weighs 110 pounds. One of the funniest things I've ever seen happened at Fork some years ago. I was fishing a flooded pond and happened to see a big gator in the water behind me. It looked to be about a 9-10-footer. It was an old one with half of its face almost white. I cast a buzz bait over its back a few time to see what it would do, and it took off toward my mini-boat, passing beneath me. There were at least 2 feet sticking out either side, which made it at least 8' long. As I continued to fish, the gator followed me. I had been munching on a deer sausage link, and threw a piece at him. It hit wide, and the gator ignored it. I broke off another chunk about 6" long and threw it right in front of the gator. The beast touched it with its snout, opened its mouth, and clamped down on it. The meat must have gotten stuck between its teeth, for it kept opening and snapping its jaws shut. Looked like Groucho Marx with a cigar. I almost fell out of my seat laughing at it for almost 5 minutes. On my next trip to Fork, I saw the same gator, one cove away from the old pond. No sausage.

I ended up canceling my order for the Versa trailer and bought an Aluma. It's working out fine. Oh. And the 6 years was actually 13. How time flies when we get old! To the basic Bass Baby, here's what I did: 1. Installed false floor for entire boat from 1/2" marine plywood 2. Glued Astroturf carpet to false floor 3. Cut and glued Astroturf carpet to depressed surfaces on sides of boat 4. Cut and carpeted plywood on which to mount battery boxes 5. Installed ramped floor in bow for TM plug-in and foot control 6. Installed FF and mounted transducer on bottom of TM, behind skeg 7. Installed TM plug-in and foot control 8. Wired TM, foot control, and FF with fuses for each 9. Installed eye bolts in bow 10. Installed eye bolts on floor under seat 11. Bought and installed new seat 12. Bought battery-operated navigation lights 13. Screwed battery boxes to plywood mount (slides back to fish and forward over wheels to trailer) 14. Attached lure holders to each side of boat 15. Glued marine carpet to the trailer bed 16. Put registration numbers on boat 17. Installed upright LED lights on trailer It's totally fishable now, but way too heavy to launch by myself without floating off trailer; easy to trailer, though.

Hello, this is my first post. Been lurking for a while. Live in the Ft Worth area. I have been looking to buy a Bass Hunter BHEC-II because of the 85lb weight. I will go fishing by myself sometimes and will take my girlfriend quite a bit and so I was trying to get the easiest boat to handle by myself that I could. Everywhere I look they sell the bass baby and the EX which are both about 130lbs. Did they discontinue the BHEC-II? If so I will have to go with one of the other bass hunters, the sun dolphin, or the pelican I guess unless I get lucky and find one. I had a sun dolphin years ago and it was a pretty good boat, just looking for something a little easier for 1 person to launch and load. I was hoping to avoid having to get a trailer too.

even with the smaller ones it is kinda brutal with no trailer... factory in battery, trolling motor, outboard, anchor, all your tackle, other odds and ends, you'll have more weight in gear than the boat no matter what it weighs pretty much. I carry mine in the bed of my avalanche, it's a 10' uncle bucks pond prowler. I hate loading and unloading it... all in all it's 250lb's+ without the battery sitting inside it when I lift and lower it from the bed and solo... it's a bear.

Yea I hear you. I remember trying to launch and load my old boat alone. I was trying to save all the weight I could, but 50 pounds is really nothing compared to all the other equipment like you said. I will just see what I can find I guess.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76Z8MmaHj68Make something like this if you don't get a trailer... that's what I'm about to do so I can stop killing myself loading and unloading this thing, and live happily with no trailer.

If you can afford it and have the storage room, then get yourself a trailer off craigslist. You'll be glad you did! Get one 4 or 5 foot wide by the length you need. You'll never need to get the tires wet. By the time the back of the trailer is over the water you can stand on the trailer and walk it off the trailer. Same for loading. These little boats can't be driven onto a trailer and if you want to fish year round and not have to carry waders, or get wet, then the trailer is the way to go.
I back up to the waters edge and have 15' of rope tied to my boat. I push it off the shore and step on the trailer. With the decking I have plenty of stability. I just pull the boat to the trailer, grab the front and walk backwards up the trailer with it. No walking on trailer rails, no balancing acts and no getting the feet or legs wet.

Thanks for the replies and youtube link. I have seen some of those boat dollies in here guys are building which would be nice. Just slide it out of the truck and dolly to the water and back. I may have to look into a trailer of some kind. Was really not wanting to buy a trailer too and then have to store it, but we will see. It might end up being worth it to me.
