I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on using snaps for crank baits & jerk baits? Good, bad, do they alter the action, thoughts??

Why? Use the split ring. Just one more thing to fail or go wrong

^^^^I thought the same thing, but when a man that wins 300k fishing tournaments in one year(Jason Christie) says he uses his snap swivels when jerkbait fishing, it made me re-evaluate how I fish these baits.

Is Christie saying to use them so he can quickly swap between colors?

When I was a wee lil bass fishermen, I thought I was high-speed using snap swivels to save time when changing baits... turns out, I never caught fish when using em, and haven't given them a second thought since then...
Maybe this Jason Christie fella has some secret to exactly which size/brand of swivels he is using...

Norman Speed Clips. I generally remove the factory split ring on a hard bait and use the speed clip. Sometimes, they are really beneficial if you are really changing baits a lot. Then, when tournament time comes, if you have settled down on bait selection, you can go with the factory split ring, if you have confidence issues with snaps/speed clips!

the "snaps" are to allow the bait greater movement. try a loop knot. on jerk baits and spook type baits.
Tight Lines and Heavy Nets.

I started using snaps swivels when I first started using spinner baits. Sure has saved me from re-spooling line after every trip. I usually have two other rods rigged without them.

I use them on all my crankbait rods. Good for the action and nice to not have to re-tie every time you want to change baits or colors.

I use them for all moving baits except spinners. I am constantly changing colors and baits and that time adds up. I've never lost a fish due to a failing Norman speed clip.

Is Christie saying to use them so he can quickly swap between colors? While that is a justifiable answer that is not why Chrisite said he does it. He uses the snaps for two reasons. the first being to allow the bait greater movement, but the more important reason is to allow the front of the bait to point downwards. According to his video it looks to be a 20-20 degree angle. He also believes in red hooks, he proclaims that as well and particularly the front hook.

All hard baits should come with oval type split rings.the cheap round ones can cause line breaks if the line slips.

Lost a nice trap today due to the Norman Speed Clips. Went to cast it and flump...right into the water it went. Ill never use one again.
