I know you wanted close to FW so this may be further than you want....but I'll add another plug for Eisenhower State Park. Great campsites - some on bluffs and give nice views. Good ramp and nice cove for family yakking and some good fishing. Clean facilities and HOT showers. Nice hiking trails and fossil hunting for family (understand state park rules on collecting). Guarantee to see deer and other wildlife. A couple of fishing docks. A SP pass gets a carload in free. Both primitive and water/elec sites available.

x3 for Lake Mineral Wells State Park. Excellent shelters, on the water, and great hiking for the kids. The lake has great crappie action and there are some great LMB's in there as well.

Looks like it will be MW if I can get it all worked out. I checked a few of the others, and they all said that they required a 2 night stay.

Colorado Bend State Park near Lampasas has some beautiful surroundings. Can be very popular on the weekends though. Mineral Wells and Cleburne State Park are both excellent and close.
